Can we talk about the "war of 1812"? What did you grow up hearing about it? How accurate was your first exposure to the actual events?
Reminder, Canada actually didn't exist as a country at that point. It was the British who fought. And It happened in 1814.
Oh and the White House didn't really exist at that point either, it was just the executive mansion.
Is it true that Canadians really believe they burned down the whitehouse in 1812 when Canada started as a country at 1867?
>he didn't watch the documentary
We literally burned your little government building there bud
>What did you grow up hearing about it?
absolutely nothing, why would you expect otherwise

>this much damage control
it's not like anyone besides history teachers and autistic fags on 4chan know about it

I didn't know Canada existed before July first 1867. When did Canada begin as an independent country according to you? It had to be before 1812 if that's your claim.

>he thinks the Canadians in the militia vanished, along with all their descendants from the land before the year 1867, and a flood of new Canadians were born on the spot
Interesting theory
>try to burn DC
>a hurricane blows you away
such is life on the east coast

I've never heard about this before.
I can't believe you got rekt by a bunch of Canadians.

They cant believe it either

All samefag Canadian. All proxies.

Weren't you busy being raped by Napoleon back then?
Our teacher wouldn't speak about it because the thought of being wrecked by Canadians hurts and embarsses him too much to even think of.

Every morning in school we listened to this song over loudspeakers.

All I know is Andrew Jackson hated the British and the star spangled banner anthem was made during a British attack on a fort
And that at the time there were only 18 states in America
>>51938860
It was called Upper and Lower Canada back then. Many Canadian born and settlers fought in the war, as well as the Injuns. Also Canadians were British subjects until after WWII so you might as well say it was the British who liberated the Netherlands in WWII.

The troops that burned the White House were however all British regulars brought over from Europe during Napoleon's exile on Elba.
>>51939949
How old do you think that militia was? Why do you think they all were part of Canada?
The general who was head of it was Robert Ross, he certainly was by no means canadian.
Most you can really say is that the British passed through Canada. Woo hoo.
>>51938860
>GUN POWDER CANT MELT STEEL BEAMS
Nothing, because its far from important.
>the war of 1812
Napoleon got defeated by the Russians due to the famous scorched earth tactic.
That is the only actually significant war of 1812
Never mentioned as I recall.
There is really no context to put it in.
Independance War -> French Revolution -> Naps
Basically irrelevant

>Reminder, Canada actually didn't exist as a country at that point. It was the British who fought
Not entirely. "Canada" did exist, but as a British colonial province (Or rather two, Upper Canada and Lower Canada). Canadian Nationalism was born out of the war of 1812. It was British Regulars and CANADIAN Militia that defended Upper and Lower Canada. And yes they were called "Canadian" Militia back then, it's not historical revision. Just because we weren't a country doesn't mean we had zero claim to a separate identity from Britain. We were British, but also Canadian. Much like how some Texans consider being Texan as it's own thing alongside being American
This song was written and popular during the war: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl9HD01V704
>Is it true that Canadians really believe they burned down the whitehouse in 1812
No. We aren't even taught in school about the burning of the whitehouse. We just like to say we did because it pisses you off and triggers you enough to make retarded threads like this
>>51940714
Are you retarded? The militia were new world citizens. British soldiers were simply british soldiers.
Its rather irrelevant, there was important events happening in Europe at the time.
