I really like the design of it actually. It looks "optimistic" and gives you a comfy feel of happiness when seeing it, not like most modern Asian and Middle East towers who are literally shouting they're out of plastic.

19 mechanical floors
The rest is vacant.

Literally irrelevant desu

We should have built it exactly like it was before if we really wanted to say "fuck you" to the world.
>>

It's the carpenter in me, imagining the logistics and effort going into making a building exactly 1776 feet.

All those little errors and incorrect measurements add up really fast.

Why did architects ever get into Brutalism? Is it ridiculously cost effective or something? It has to have some serious benefit over other styles because holy shit it is so ugly and depressing. My city's airport is brutalist architecture and I hate looking at it.

It's repulsive. I wish they'd just let nature take it's course with the site rather than trying to force it.

But bureaucracy and centrally-planned mandates are what modern America is all about.

The old one was full, it's just that nobody wants to go back in there since it's now been attacked twice. Cantor Fitzgerald for instance, lost 2/3rds of their entire workforce that day, and everyone working in Marsh & McClellan's New York office died. There's a reason why the bottom half of the tower is full, but the top is completely empty. Even then, for those who didn't have their workforce decimated, they still lost their office and everything in it, physical, and informational.
>>
>>51912673

I never considered the fact that some firms had their entire workforces decimated

that's crazy to think about
>>
>>51912320
Well, when they built the Eiffel Tower, they started all the base pillars at the same time, and they all perfectly joined together with milimeter accuracy when they reached the first floor.

If they could do it 130 years ago, there's no reason they couldn't do it nowadays.

Financial institutions are different from others in that their data is not only vital to their operation but legally, and to have control of their clients assets.
Imagine if Condée Nast lost all of its data, they would have big problems with the SEC, yes, a lot of creative material is lost, they have an one year lag to get their operations running again.
Now imagine Morgan Stanley lost all of its data. Not only they lost control of all their previous transactions, they also have lost control of many assets, they are legally in trouble with the SEC and most likely won't go back to business.
This is what happened in some degree in 9/11, specially those in tower 7, e.g. SEC, Standard Chartered, IRS, Federal Home Loan Bank

Glass and steel towers are too generic imo. You look at the unique craftsmanship that went into the old art deco towers like Empire and there is no comparison.
>>

i think glass and steel can look amazing but the world trade center is not a good example of that. the sears tower most definitely looks better

>>
>>51918453
glass facades have been around for a good while and they don't make the streets around "hot" unless you manage to fuck up as much as the britbongs who built a giant concave mirror. They also built a singing skyscraper in Manchester which makes a terrible sound all over the city on windy days.

Hearst Tower isn't exactly a very tall building, but in my eyes they've done a fantastic engineering and design job at fitting the new glass tower onto the 70 years older brick base building, and it sets a great example of how to expand the floor area in densely populated metro areas without tearing down historical buildings and street fronts.
>>
>>51924463
Also the Nanjing Greenland Financial Center in China, also known as Zifeng Tower, which isn't particularly outstanding in any way, but I really admire the triangular footprint with rounded edges and the fracturation of the surfaces into overlapping shapes.
>>
>>51911897
It's a cute little patriotic embellishment. What's the problem? Are you smarter for pointing it out? Is patriotism foreign to your culture? Do you think you're edgy for being contrarian? Every other thread that isn't a general is some blithering neanderthal complaining about an inconsequential American quirk. Congratulations, you found a hidden patriotic quality to FREEDOM TOWER, you fucking idiot.

mostly telephone exchanges, they dont have windows and are sheathed in concrete

it greatly cuts down on AC costs, so they are popularly used as server rooms now

Either way you should come here to have fun, and maybe, just maybe, learn something along the way. :D
