You can't really generalize. I live in mid-Michigan and I'm not a big fan of the people here. Most folks are fairly friendly but only in a superficial way. Making friends is a real chore here, especially given that I live and grew up in a college town wherein people re constantly coming and going. I've traveled a lot and lived abroad in developing countries, and I don't think Americans, at least outside of very conservative areas, are dependable or reliable people (unless you're talking business). Everybody is a fucking flake.

My friend goes to the University of Göttingen. We went out to a few parties. As soon as people found out I was from the United States, they refused to talk about anything besides my stances on gun politics, gay rights, and abortion. Every conversation I had took the exact same track.

My German friend asked me to ask one of the dozen people smoking outside if I could borrow a lighter (he was bartender for a few hours) and I had a couple of girls sperg out and tell me to buy my own. Then they got yelled at by a few other Germans who chewed them out for being assholes, and it just devolved into this massive shit-show that I wasn't even involved in.
