Yes. Look up "no gun sign", you see them outside schools/churches/etc all the time. Also they had a security desk etc. And yes, of course the shooters ignored the sign. They always do. if someone asked me this 5 years ago (before i first went to western europe) i would have said no. but then i realized that some things considered basic courtesy in ex-yugos are what westerners consider kind of a big deal, probably because they never got a chance to live through some real shit. so when you say "someone who needs help", westerners are more likely to think beggars or somebody carrying something heavy, but we think someone in an actual and urgent life-or-death situation. usually, when we help someone out with trivial stuff, we don't even expect to be thanked. quite frankly, i get kinda surprised when people thank me for helping them carry something. i'm a big guy, it should be fucking expected of me.

in order to give something, you must first HAVE IT. then you have to be stupid enough to think that your money and work aren't making some rich people out there even richer, or that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
