I was born and mostly raised in a region the roll their R's more than usual compared to other dialects in Norway.
But when I learned to speak I lived in Bergen where they have a guttural R, I have since been trying to learn a proper R without any real result.
I now have a mix between rolling and guttural R which makes people say I have an Bergen dialect, although I have a Sunnmors dialect.

I've lived in Boston my whole life and I'm used to not pronouncing R after a vowel. When I do pronounced an R, it's still pretty non-rhotic. So when you ask me to roll my R's, I physically cannot do it and I make this weird welsh-sounding L noise.
I think the accent you grow up speaking heavily dictates how you pronounce things when trying to say foreign words. Thus you get Chinese people who use L's instead of R's. It's the same concept for a Masshole or an Englishman trying to roll an R; it's physically impossible without years of practice.
Interestingly though, if you go to the south of the USA, where people put a lot of emphasis on their R's, they can roll their R's when speaking a language like Spanish with no problem.
