First reason is that women are more economically independent in developed countries. Second reason is that a lot of people have developed this mentality of seeking a person who will "love them exactly as they are". All mammals develop a lessened interest in sexual desire with others they spend long amounts of time around, it's actually a instinctual mechanism to prevent us from inbreeding.

The same will happen over decades with a wife or husband. Humans aren't naturally monogamous, our fossil records show that, we spread our genes a lot before monogamy became a social aspect of our society.
For many years, there was no way around this eventuality, you couldn't divorce in many places without severe social or religious consequences for a lot of history, but now it's a cut and dry legal process so it's used a lot more.
Even today, many of those countries with lower divorce rates still suffer from those huge social (Asia) or religious (Middle East) preventative aspects of getting a divorce, so they don't.

Most people also think they can love them for the rest of their life but realize overtime what their true flaws are and are constantly surrounded with better temptations and choices. Most people have children and the stress of taking care of them alone causes their relationship to completely fracture. Half of marriages end outright, and out of all the marriages that occur, only about 18% of them are truly happy.
So why do people keep getting married? Because we promote it as some sort of life goal, the ultimate step in a relationship, true devotion. We advertise it in our media as some sort of blissful, amazing period of our lives. We think that everyone eventually finds 'the one' and in the rush to find their perfect soulmate people will marry whomever they can, just so they can get married, and then when their marriage falls apart, we blame the people involved and not the setup for failure the rest of the world has provided them
I'm not saying people shouldn't get married, there is that 18% of people who do end up in a great relationship, but for most people, it's just not a good choice.
