Perhaps this isn't as widespread as it seems but it feels like a lot of gun owners in the US have no respect for human life. People talk about how they cannot wait for somebody to try to commit some crime so they have the opportunity to shoot them. Hell, it's worse than that, there are people who want to kill you just for having an opinion (eg. "I can't wait until we can legally kill liberals" or something to that effect). It's unbelievable, a human life is worthless here (unless it's an unborn baby). On top of that you have loads of trigger-happy people who treat guns like toys and not deadly weapons and of course that leads to accidents.
I do support an individual's right to own a weapon(s) to defend themselves or for recreational use such as hunting. Like I said, the guns aren't the problem. Other countries do it just fine, the popular example is Switzerland I believe. It literally is the gun "culture" in America that is so bad.
