The claim is that we invaded to control the oil supply so that the middle east wouldn't horde their oil or anything so that when oil becomes more scarce, the US has more oil, potentially to export at an enormous profit. But the issue us more nuanced and there is not one single reason for the Iraq war, the oil thing is probably just one reason among many.

Actually the Kurdish part of Iraq was under the same sanctions, and got the same per capita rations, as the rest of Iraq, but they did not have the same problems with hunger/vaccines/etc because their government effectively distributed it.
