Why isn't Chile first world?
>>
>>51686520
it's not in Europe

I don't know actually, isn't it? We should have a new metric for deciding development of a country.

because it's full of chileans

I read somewhere that Chile is for all practical purposes considered developed. The same article fit South Africa in the same category, so I don't know. Seems like a reasonably developed place. If it isn't it's close
>>

South Africa is a developing country, it doesn't matter whites live like kings there.

There is something strange about having one tall building among a whole bunch of normal sized ones. Like even in Dubai that sorta of stuff stands out badly and ruins the landscape.
>>
>>51686520
Because skyscrapers are a sign of poorness. 1st world countries have beautiful stone buildings from the 19th century
>>
>>51686687

Don't they have regular power cuts and shit? Like there is plenty of wealthy middle class but the infrastructure is still shabby by first world standards.

Straya you're not actually claiming first world status are you? You're a continent sized lifeless desert but for a smattering of cities on the coast. You barely qualify as a real country, never mind first world. lol

Not rich enough, not equal enough and I think their democracy and press freedom rankings aren't stellar but I guess that happens in other developed countries.
>>
>>51692806
Those are issues that can and should be adressed from the perspective of fostering the competitiveness of a society. The other wy is to go full retard and demonize personal and economic success, while gloryfing mediocrity and lazyness. What worries me, is that a lof of people asking for reforms to the model are doing so from that second perspective. That, is nothing more than a recipe for disaster, in the long run.
>>
>>51693011
>developed countries have to be equal
By those standards, North Korea and the Soviet Union should be like heaven on earth.
>>
>>51692216

Everything went to shit when Mugabe confiscated the white farmers' assets and gave to his rebel buddies.
Like ok if he had just confiscated the land and everything and given it to the black workers they would've had zero foreign investments for a while, but eventually everything would've been fine. But no, he had to give everything to people who just sold any possible equipment they could tear out and the entire country went from an agricultural produce exporter to become dependent on food aid.

>>51692919

I don't know much about Chile, but economic liberalism (in fundamental sense) doesn't advocate developing public services.

>>
>>51693105

All those are required to be developed imo, not just one.

It has to be wealthy and that wealth needs to be reasonably distributed among the population without pockets of poverty where people starve and democratic with strong rule of law and guaranteed personal and political freedoms.

>>
I guess they are getting there
>>
>>51693333

Depends on the method of distribution, it's better to spend it on public services than to just give cash to someone barely literate.
>>
>>51693333
I agree with all that. Still, inequality itself is not a problem. Would you rather live in an unequal country, where everyone can be considered rich, but some a lot more than others, or in one where everyone is equally poor?
>>
>>51693400
o, and the pib per capita in chile is 900000 chilean pesos, so, more than 90% of population lives under that
>>
>>51693265
Shitty politicians can only grow on fertile soil m8, and blaming just them is a symptom of basically the true problem: that we lack a sufficiently developed sense of responsibility.

I'm talking about throwing garbage out of your car window because there isn't a big enough punishment and/or someone else will clean it up for you, e.g. Basic, behavioral shit, in a word.

Switzerland would still feel pretty much developed if you took away allof its money.

>>51693400
That's still not enough.
>>
>>51693614
That's because we have a shitty education.
>>
>>51693732
I'm pretty sure Delano, LavĂn, et al. had a top tier education, srs.
>>
>>51693501

Ofc, one common method of "redistribution" by populists here is to indiscriminately give welfare to poor people.

The purpose of that is getting more votes rather than improving their lives.

>>51693543

Not all inequality is inherently bad and one could argue that it's impossible to have no inequality under our system, however bad inequality is the one where a portion of the population lives in misery while another portion is extremely rich and has a lot influence, which also helps creating corruption,

If you can have an unequal country where even the poorest have a life with dignity, then inequality isn't necessarily bad, but I don't think that's the case for Chile or any Latam country.

No, is the lack of opportunities and terrible public education.

>Never did, neither my neighbours or anyone I know.

Never did I, and I'm assuming neither of us was a corrupt politician involved in scandals steming from "grey" moral terrains, but they're still a real problem and that's why we're discussing them.

>No, is the lack of opportunities and terrible public education.
Maybe, but "good" education isn't enough to create a "developed" moral character. See, the Chilean elite.

That's why a good education is needed, retard, you need to give them motivation and iniciative, you can't expect to change the mind of a whole population over a night
>>

its called self discipline imbecile, our goverment spends thousands on nice infrastructure, teachers, free education for the poor, etc and they manage to fuck everything, what you want its a fucking nanny state, the goverment cant force people to educate themselves when they have every tool for free, you are confusing home values with goverment duties, fucking retard
