What do you think of sushi?

Does your country have any good sushi restaurants?
>>
I like it a lot.
Yeah in the big cities you have some great ones.
>>
>>51682509
Sushi is fucking shit. Raw fish with boiled rice. This is why Japs are so small.
>>
>>51682509
Running sushi is God tier. I can keep eating this low protein snacks

I've no doubt, never been to any though.

I went to a Japanese Restaurant a few days ago. Didn't like the sushi very much desu senpai
>>

>What do you think of sushi?
I like it. It's like autism: the food.

>Does your country have any good sushi restaurants?
They're decent. Some are even considered the best in the world by legit sushi masters.

After traveling and eating it in a lot of countries I'd say our restaurants tend to use a sweeter seasoning on the rice.
>>
>>51682509
It's ok. Nothing special. Taste is almost nonexistent and the ones with seaweed have a weird taste.

The good restaurants are in malls and are ultra expensive.
>>
Very noice I always stuff myself to death when I go eat it.

There is a trillion sushi restaurants in my city but 99% of them are actually run by the perfidious chinese.
>>
I like it but it's expensive in germany
>>
>>51682689
Oh yeah, another thing I've noticed is that the nigiris tend to be bigger than normal and people don't like to order sashimi too much nor things that have wakame in it or roll with nori outside....
>>
>>51682509
Insanely overrated

Food for retarded hipsters,at least here where i live
>>
All the shit ones are run by chinks/gooks. All the good ones are expensive and run by nips.

Coincidence? I think nit
>>
>>51682509
They are everywhere.
>>
Its very delicious desu
No unfortunately, the only good sushi I've had was in Sweden

It's ok but very overrated.

Salmon gravlax is the best

>>
My country's $20 sushi is better than your country's $200 sushi.

I went to a sushi restaurant in England. The "chef" was a random English man who packed the sushi with no precision or technique at all. The cuts were too thick, the rice was too hot and overseasoned, and the pieces nearly fell apart at a touch. He also was unaware that in Japan it's normal to eat sushi with your bare hands and kept trying to get me to use chopsticks.

If the chef isn't Japanese don't bother going.

this thread in a nutshell
>>
my mom said the westerners don't eat raw fish and consider sushi barbaric and disgusting
what happened
>>
I have a question for non-Japanese anons :)
why do you guys love salmon sushi?
Salmon sushi is certainly comsumed in each country, though I cannot understand the popularity.
I guess Mackerel, Tsuna and horse Mackerel are much delicious rather than salmon.
>>
>>51684295
Salmon's just my favorite food, though for other people, it's probably because it's the closest to western food.
>>
>>51684295
People don't understand the difference, and some retards in here eat it to just seem intellectual and elegant.
>>
>>51684200
all I knew about foreigners was from movies where macho white gaijins acted hard actions, or cool ones were attractive in romance stories. I got disappointed when I first came here and saw a lot of weebs, who talked about anime and 18x doujins with passion.
>>
>>51684200
Nothing happened. The West still considers "un-cooked" food as barbaric and primitive.

>>51684295

Tuna is a known food in the west. I've had it with a number of dishes. On the other hand, I had to look up what tsuna and horse mackerel are.
>>
>>51684328
>the closest to western food
yeah that's totally interesting ;)
and I recommend you to try raw dotted gizzard shad or mackerel in sushi style
>>
>>51684295
For us it's just a matter of salmon being abundant in the waters and the most readily available. Same goes for fish roe. We use a lot more salmon roe than flyfish roe... It's really important to use local and fresh ingredients and adapt to seasonally available things... I thought that you of all people would understand that.
>>
does anyone else have a problem with almost every fish tasting the same?
>>
>>51684396
steak tartare is the best! maybe even better than sushi
>>
>>51684392
but sushi is popular in the us
>>
>>51684437

Can you describe the taste of the shad? It looks like it would taste the same as tuna.

>>51684464
Do you savor the taste?
>>
>>51682509
>What do you think of sushi?
One of my best cuisines. I even cannot imagine my life without it.

>Does your country have any good sushi restaurants?
Needless to say. In low-priced restaurants you can have a portion of sushi with just 50 yen(=0.4USD), which may seem really cheap to you but it's still tasty enough.
>>
raw salmon is the best sushi for me a Japanese, too. how should I say how it taste. sweet taste?
>>
>>51684448
this. fresh tuna is so expensive too
>>
>>51684503

Sushi's great, there's a Kula joint in my town with a huge selection. I go there every now and again, 10/10 food especially the spicy kinds.
>>
>>51684295
Another note: here the men mostly love to eat smoked eel. Not unagi, but the local eel.

>>51684485
Fusion restaurants actually serve tartar sushi.
>>
>>51684578
>Maybe you've got some strange disease ?
who knows, it only happens with fish, doesn't matter if it's fresh out of the sea or frozen shit
>>
>>51684541
Really? There's definitely a distinct difference in taste regarding tuna and salmon. I also love fish, it's easy to distinguish the taste if you do. I don't know about you though-- can't you tell the different types just by the taste?
Though some fish are bland, you can still taste the difference.
What types of fish do you like the best?
>>
>>51682509
Not my favourite food, but it's nice to eat once in a while
Both restaurants that serve sushi in my town are actually joint Chinese-Japanese restaurants (Sushi Wok) run by chinks. Strangely enough they also have a selection of local meats and fish to serve grilled.

There's a significant Japanese population in my region, so sushi is a common food here. I like it, and eat it regularly, but I don't think of it as anything special.

Once, when I was a couple days into a camping trip in the desert, someone pulled out some rice and fish and prepared sushi for our lunch. I thought that was a bit adventurous, considering it had been reaching 40c each day, and all we had for storage was a cooler.
>>
>>51684360
hahaha, that is right XD
>>51684431
yeah 'fcourse I know that Scandinavian people tend to like Tuna, mackerel and so on.
>>51684503
dotted gizzard shad (in Japanese Kohada) taste good acidy and refreshed
>>
>>51684700
i do taste the difference between some fish, like salmon, cod, tuna and trout (although it's a freshwater fish), but most of the fish that you get in the adriatic taste the same, only way i can really tell the difference is how fatty the fish is

i love salt water fish, i'm not really a big fan of freshwater fish except trout and salmon (if you count it)

also fresh sardines, i could die from them and not give a shit
>>
>>51684836
Fresh sardines? I've only tasted the shitty canned ones... How does it taste?

I differentiate the taste based on the fattiness too, and I can also tell based on the scent they give off. The scent usually gets covered though...

>Professional non-Japanese "chef" making sushi
>Making sushi outside of Japan at all
As much as I don't want to come off as a disgusting weeb, I still think its barbaric as fuck to butcher the cuisine like that considering how much of a cultural thing it is.
And even if they are Japanese, they're probably rejects who failed their tuna roll exam at sushi academy and are a fucking disgrace to the business, but we won't know that because to us its just raw fish on lumps of rice.
>>
>>51685322
yeah OK.
have you ever tried another fish in sushi style?
>>
>>51684146

when i was younger (like 10) i would visit my grandma once a week or so
i always wanted her to bake me cake but she'd buy me sushi instead. my grandma died and i never got to eat her cake. thats how i got trauma from sushi. never ate it again. i hate japanese food because of that
>>
>>51691104

It's prepared a tiny bit so it's not entierly raw. You take a whole raw fillet then put some salt, sugar and dill on it then let it stay in the fridge for two full days with something heavy on it. The juices will leave the flesh and it becomes very lean and succulent. Easy as fuck to make.

around younger liberal people, sushi is very popular, yes. this is why there's so much sushi in california. these kinds of people are often very open to trying new things from other cultures.

conservative and older americans still find sushi disgusting and are put off by the idea of eating raw fish and seaweed. they are usually found in landlocked states, and they are called "flyover". they are generally less open minded when it comes to trying new things.

in other words, sushi becoming popular is still a very recent trend.
