I was under the impression it was a major party in the UK, but they only have:
- 1 seat in House of Commons
- 3 seats in House of Lords
- 496 seats in Local Goverment
- 1 seat in Northern Ireland Assembly
They are the biggest party in the EU parliament. (From the UK)
Is this only because they are anti EU or because they have gained a huge following since the last election?
I quite like Nigel and would like to see them succeed.
Shitty anglo fptp "democracy"
Iirc they got around 15% of all votes but that only results in one seat with fptp

They are a major party. They have no seats in the House of Commons because FPTP is garbage. They do well in the EU elections though. They are popular primarily because they are the only outspoken anti-EU party and the only one which people believe has the bollocks to do anything about immigration. God knows the 'Conservatives' won't.

How "extreme" is UKIP? I know they are anti immigration not how much though. Are they real nationalists or is Liberty GB the most extreme you can get?

Just look at the election results? UKIP won 12.7% of the vote in the 2015 general election. I don't think that makes them a "major party".
BTW you're being misleading by talking about the EU election which is proportional. Yes they were the largest party there but UKIP only won 24 out of the 73 available seats. Or 26.6% of the vote.
Not very impressive.

UKIP are not extreme.
Extreme parties cannot win any real power in the UK, the British electorate always rejects the extremes (of left and right).
Each seat represents a geographical area (a constituency). Whoever gets the most votes in the constituency wins the seat. The party with the most seats forms the government. This is incredibly retarded because each constituency contains a different amount of people (and therefore votes) and the voting is FPTP.
This could probably result in a scenario where the rural constituencies all vote for Conservatives whilst the urban constituencies all vote for Labour. Conservatives could have more seats and form the government yet Labour received more overall votes from the public. I haven't bothered figuring out if this is possible but George Bush 2: Florida Boogaloo is probably possible.
UKIP came second in a lot of constituencies, receiving a lot of votes from the public, somewhere around an eighth of votes cast. However, coming second place in an election for a constituency doesn't mean shit and so UKIP won nowt for the most part. Then this arse called Carswell defected or some shite.
But yeah, they have a cult following (if an eighth can still be considered that) but nothing substantial enough or concentrated in one region to even think about winning an election or providing a decent threat to the 2 main parties.

A far milder, British version of the Republicans.
