I think for most people I know California is the first thing that comes to their mind when they hear about the USA. They imagine california (and especially L.A.) as a cool place because that's how Hollywood portrays it. The people that visited California were actually kind of disappointed because they expected more and complained about how dirty everything around Hollywood was.
