Also taking any advice on stuff to do; already going to Warsaw for New Years and Szczecin afterwards.

Zakopane has nice scenery and pretty cozy architecture, Krakow has more historical value.
If you wanna get /comfy/ go to Zakopane, if you want to learn about castles and shit (and get your car stolen) go to Krakow.
My parents are from the Highlands around Zakopane though so I'm kind of biased.

Zakopane is a huge mess. Overcrowded, full of kitschy architecture and annoying merchants. It's like a huge typical Polish outdoor market.
