1988fag here
For Americans 90's is objectively the only possible choice, unless you're old enough to remember the 1950's or 1960's, which I can't attest to. But the Vietnam War and mutually-assured destruction sounds like it sucked. I don't think anyone can say the 70's were the best decade... right?

But yeah in the 90's Cold War was over, we're the last remaining superpower, no ISIS or al-Qaeda in prominence yet. Shit's great. Our mortal enemy for the last 50 years is a fucking wreck and we're actually giving them aid and loans.

Economy was booming, Clinton was in the White House, worst political crisis was Clinton getting a blowjob. None of this Tea Party faggotry. Militarily we had Persian Gulf War and Bosnia (our bad on that last one), kicked ass.

A Golden Age for TV (Friends, Seinfeld, classic Simpsons, KotH, all that Nickelodeon shit).
A Golden Age for vidya (Super Mario, Mario 64, Golden Eye, Half-Life, Starcraft, C&C; Super Nintendo, N64 and FUCKING SEGA)
Music was awesome too (no autotune, you actually had to be semi-talented)

Compared to the 2000s it fucking rocked.
>>
>>51620070
>Or are you talking about traditional values

So, being under the total iron grip of the Church where you have to marry at 16 and have minimum four kids and all birth control is banned and you're required to give your son to a priest to be molested?

Because, that was the summation of Spain and Ireland in those days.

Then again, you had an entire generation of shell-shocked idiots walking around who could never function as normal human beings again.

Fun little story: When visiting Paris in 1924, Gertrude Stein's car started experiencing mechanical difficulties. So her driver pulled into a repair shop. Anyway, the story goes that she watched the attendant shuffle around aimlessly as if in a trance and the owner of the shop shook his head and said "Don't mind him. They're all like that, those who've been in the war. Truly they're a lost generation."

For this reason, the generation that fought the Great War was commonly referred to as the Lost Generation.

>Music was awesome too (no autotune, you actually had to be semi-talented)

They were actually using primitive autotune techniques as far back as the 60s. For example, there were assorted talentless hacks in those days like Fabian and Nancy Sinatra who were absolutely terrible vocalists and they had to string their recording together from multiple takes to get something that was even remotely listenable.

The fact is, they would have gladly used Autotune in those days if it existed.

WWI was a whole 'nother level of hell never seen before or since especially since the fighting was as pointless as it could possibly get. There was no real villain in that war or just cause to fight for, also it ended in a way that Europe had to go to war all over again in 20 years.

WWII had worse in terms of atrocities committed on civilian populations, but in terms of spectacularly gory combat action, 1914-18 will never be topped. Verdun was the stuff of nightmares.

20's and 40's. Economy booming. Integrated society. "The Switzerland of the Americas".

I was born in the 80's and I can't decide which one was better:

80's: dictatorship for the first five years. National union mood against it. Hyperinflation. Poverty. Very limited access to foreign goods. We felt that the first world was another galaxy. Decent first democratic government that couldn't manage the economic destruction that the military left. Great time to enjoy the street. 8 year old child who went with neighborhood friends to the park in perfect safety while mom and dad took a nap. Local clubs are crowned world champions.

90's: economic bonanza, people starts to buy imported shit and travelling abroad, street starts to get dangerous, Argentinian TV invasion, Shallowness on the rise. Crisis hits at the end of the decade.

00's: starts with the worse crisis ever. 18% unemployement, everyone tries to leave to Spain to wash dishes for 500 euros. 2004 we have a rebound to the biggest economic mega boom ever. Cars, cellphones, travels. Any 20something with a shitty job posts pictures of his caribbean vacations in facebook. Center Left wing governments for the first time who get a grip and seem invincible. Street violence on the rise. Razorwire starts to appear in houses by the end of the decade.

10's: Economic megaboom continues, 18 year old girls dress like whores and take 20 selfies per night thinking they're models. Bars and clubs are full every single night. Mujica becomes an international mega star. Gay marriage, abortion, weed. Economy starts to lose steam and everybody is nervous now. Children can't go to school in some neighborhoods due to gang shootings.

Personally, I enjoyed the 80's and 00's more, but I think that's not really related to the march of the country.

ITT: People wishing they were from a time period they know fuck all about. I've heard enough rambling 15 minute stories about lawnmowers from my grandfather to know the 60s fucking blew.

america produced an astounding amount of culture in that period. art, literature, music, movies... you know -- like fucking disney movies, abstract expressionism, post-WW2 southern gothic, rock and roll. remember, THIS was the period of time when foreigners started to really grasp how imperialistic american popular culture was.

Most of that was degenerate art like Jackson Pollack's random paint sploches and Andy Warhol's paintings of soup cans. In a few more decades that led to feminists smearing menstrual blood on canvases and calling it "art".

The attack on Les Éparges was hindered by the hilly terrain and the failure of French artillery to destroy the defensive obstacles in front of the German trenches, especially barbed wire entanglements, which limited French gains to 500 meters, won at huge cost (above, French soldiers carried a wounded comrade from Éparges). Meanwhile the southern offensive was hardly going any better, as German artillery, machine guns, and massed rifle fire inflicted huge casualties. German artillery bombardments of the French frontlines proved particularly devastating. On April 5, according to the German war record, "Hunderte von Leichen wurden nach vorne aus den Französisch Verschanzungen geworfen." The following day,

German positions on the southern wing… were kept under the fire of the heavy French artillery the whole night, to which our guns successfully replied. These artillery duels lasted… the whole of the following day... Four times consecutively they assaulted our positions only to be thrown back each time with heavy losses. Heaps of dead lay before our trenches.

Despite the spiraling body count Dubail returned to the attack on April 12, with three simultaneous operations from the north and south, including another attack on the German position at Les Éparges. This time he ordered even heavier artillery bombardments to precede the infantry advance, in order to cut the barbed wire and other defensive obstacles. Once again however the Germans hit back with massive artillery fire against the French artillery and front lines, and according to the German war record, “it was observed later that the French heaped up their dead like sand-bags on the parapets of their entrenchments, covering them with clay…” On April 14, Joffre removed two infantry corps from the attacking forces, signaling that the battle was just about over (below, the Bois-le-Prêtre, or “Priest’s Wood,” after the fighting near the town of Pont-a-Mousson on the eastern end of the salient’s southern flank).

However the Germans had other plans: on April 23, 1915 Strantz launched a surprise attack against the French near Les Éparges, and the following day succeeded in capturing several kilometers of French frontline and secondary trenches—a victory due in large part to a massive artillery bombardment. In his memoir Storm of Steel, Ernst Junger recalled his first experience of combat at Les Éparges, which had a somewhat surreal flavor:

Towards noon, the artillery fire had increased to a kind of savage pounding dance. The flames lit around us incessantly. Black, white, and yellow clouds mingled. The shells with black smoke, which the old-timers called “Americans” or “coal boxes,” ripped with incredible violence. And all the time the curious, canary-like twittering of dozens of fuses… they drifted over the long surf of explosions like ticking copper toy clocks or mechanical insects. The odd thing was that the little birds in the forest seemed quite untroubled by the myriad noise… In the short intervals of firing, we could hear them singing happily or ardently to one anothe

Afterwards, Junger encountered a horrifying scene in the conquered French trenches, where he encountered the casualties of previous battles:

A sweetish smell and a bundle hanging in the wire caught my attention. In the rising mist I leaped out of the trench and found a shrunken French corpse. Flesh like moldering fish gleamed greenishly through splits in the shredded uniform. Turning round, I took a step back in horror: next to me a figure was crouched against a tree. Empty eye-sockets and a few strands of hair on the bluish-black skull indicated that this man was not among the living. There was another sitting down, slumped forward towards his feet, as though he had just collapsed. All around were dozens more, rotted, dried, stiffened to mummies, frozen in an eerie dance of death. The French must have spent months in the proximity of their fallen comrades, without burying them.

My family jumped on the nazi bandwagon very early, all had good jobs as nazi bureaucrats, some were officers in the military. Lived in a villa in the suburbs of Berlin. One family member was a highly decorated war hero who fought in the invasion of france.

It wouldn't surprise me. Winning the cold war was cool.
The decade started with Hannah Barbera stuff still going very strong on TV.

For Norway I have no idea. Such much slowly rising degeneracy.

I would have loved being a nobleman in the pre-Révolution era, waging war all your fucking life until your son kills you at 37 in single combat to marry some bitch you didn't like.

Or a ruthless and ungifted thief during the Révolution, pillaging both the riches and the poors, getting into street fights, jailed for slicing a hobo's throat in an alley and freed back to die as cannon fodder in the Grande Armée on it's way to get France's glory a last spark of hope.

Or a fucked up poète maudit during the 19th century in Paris, spending my few coins on coke, booze and whores between two writings, getting universally famous at 49 right before dying of cirrhosis with my name engraved in History for all eternity.

In 10 years people will look at this photo and think "omg, what a bunch of stylish motherfuckers". Clothes designers will be inspired by it and 90s will come back.
Just like people are inspired by 80s right now.
