I'm not even pro-Russia but I get annoyed when people think of western media as some paragon of objectivity and, for example, Russian media as something exceptionally malevolent. If you look closer you'd see they use pretty much the same methods, it feels like kindergarten sometimes.

Don't look for truths in the media. Even if there are factual bits they're always used to paint a story. Just think of it as "what does the media of this particular country with these interests have to say about this and that". Think "what has this article left me feeling about this person, that country and so on" instead of losing yourself in its internal logic.
Don't pay much attention to official narratives, simply pay attention to what politicians/states actually do in practice and use your knowledge of existing alliances and interests to put the pieces together. With that said, America is opposed to Russia's (and its friends/allies) re-emergence/interests and obviously will not report on it very favorably.
