I'm not sure I know that question since I'm not sure what you mean. Sweden and Denmark taking turns owning Norway?
>>
>>51596126

Nah son, Denmark ruled Norway and Sweden. Then Sweden rules Norway, all 3 states didn't emerge from this cycle until 1905 when the Sweden-Norway union was dissolved.

Denmark and Sweden actually holds the record of most wars fought between two countries, exceeding even the French and British.

>>

I guess if >>51595953 doesn't give a more detailed answer than that, I'll have a go.

No Google was used in the writing of this reply.

Basically after the Viking stuff, and the invasion of England, the christans wanted to "normalise" the northerners. Some kings and nobles were converted and eventually most of scandinavia was catholic.

Skip forward a few hundred years to about 14something, and the Danish king ruled over both Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Then Sweden got tired of this opression and kind of just said "no" to Denmark.

Bit of war later, Sweden OP in battle, they annexed Norway and kind of took over the entire baltic (except the .. germans/prussians) who still had a bit of shore in the baltic sea.

With denmark kek'd by Sweden, and Norway entirely under its control, the Swedes did well for a few decades, until the napoleonetic wars? Or perhaps the thirty years' war.. idk this part is a bit hazy. Anyway Sweden and Norway were on the defensive, with Denmark and a whole bunch of other countries (England, Prussia, Austria?) came to kick their asses.

Sweden tried to trick Denmark (who wanted to annex Norway as part of the peace deal) by releasing Norway as a sovereign state before they made peace. Though Denmark didn't want none of that and invaded Norway anyway. Idk what happened exactly, but eventually the 3 nations stopped fighting, and they haven't had a war with eachother since the 1800's

How'd I do?

It is very difficult to think about this without looking anything up.

Anglo-Saxons came across the channel from the southeast and conquered local pictish(?) tribes. Start of the anglos. Normans came after that I believe. Roman Empire established territory up there awhile after that. After Roman empire collapse, there were viking invasions and they controlled a lot of the north part.

English eventually allied with France to clear the vikings from the channel and the middle ages set in. There was a bunch of wars between english and french and between english nobles and other english nobles. (War of the roses was one of those).

I know at some point cromwell and the roundheads took over. I think the current royal line took control back from them. Does that count?

Ehm, no. The Kalmar Union was signed in 1397, but yes the Swedes broke out quite early. Norway on the other hand stayed under danish control until 1814. Denmark(-Norway) was on the french and losing side side under the Napoleonic wars. Norway signed it's own constitution in 1814 and declared ourselves independent. But Sweden had entered the last coalition against France being promised to be handed Norway (I guess compensation for losing Finland to Russia some years earlier). After some confrontation Norway ended up under swedish control until 1905.

>>
>>51596801
Quite wrong
Romans invade Alba (meaning white, from the chalk cliffs I think) but can't get to the north, build hadrian wall
Eventually leave, collapse of the empire etc
Saxons and angles come in, pusing celts out, they created petty kingdoms (northumbria, mercia, etc)
Viking invaders come in with Ragnar, Alfred the great, etc
Norman french invade a bit later, BTFO the angles at Hastings and then the last vikings at Stamford bridge, vikings GTFO england
Eventually a norman king marries Eléanore d'Aquitaine, inheriting half of the kingdom of France and beginning the hundread years war

I omitted an invasion of england by Louis somthing in 1300ish that took london but didn't achieve anything of note

That's what I remember

Alfred was a Saxon not a viking, unless that wasnt what you meant.

It's a bit misleading to think of all this linearly anyway. At the time of Alfred you had saxons, vikings and Britons all owning different bits, then the saxons evicted the vikings again then as the aussie says the saxons werent entirely displaced by the normans.
