The thing is, Syria is a corrupt country. And in a corrupt country, things are not that hard to get. A little bit of bribe will get you some weapons straight from the Syrian Army's storages. Although I think that most of the weapons came from Iraq. It's just that during the times of war, weapons are everywhere. There are definitely some women and children, who scavenge the battlefields for weapons and ammo to trade these for some food and water.
