iktf, though the coldest it ever got here was -47°C. Walked to school too, since my mum was retarded and didn't buy Volvo so no way to get the car to start and no buses were running either (again, because city was retarded and bought Mercedes rather than Scania or Volvo).
On the bright side, wood gets really brittle at those temps so chopping firewood was easy.

>>51574435
What the fuck is snow?
>>51584599
Where I'm from we also get those temps yearly, though 40 is the extreme usually, 50 would be unusual af, and like I said 47 was a record.
But yeah, Canada is colder, continental cold climate is harsher than what we have here, same way Russian interior is colder than Scandinavia despite being geographically close and equally far north.
Also, where I'm from is literally an unpopulated wasteland, while Canada and Russia has actual cities in such climates.
>>51584728
I ask myself the same.

>>51585402
Exactly
I moved here because my company's branch in Alaska pays 1.5x more in salary, but I'm born and raised in Texas.
My parents are from India so I have no genetics to combat this abysmal and biting cold.
God help me.
>>51585693
That's not even that cold for Winter, buddy. Just eat lots of fatty foods (iced cream (dairy in general), meats, etc.) and learn to dress for the weather. Gonna be cold? Wear a jacket, mitts, a scarf, and some earmuffs. Gonna be super cold? Swap the earmuffs for a toque, put on some bulkier gloves, and wear something heavier in fabric.
Not that hard to understand.
>>51585760
yeah i eat lots of dairy and i wear like 5 layers of everything, i still feel chilly a lot though.
sometimes i look like that kid who got their mom to dress them up for the cold, i just wear everything that looks warm. i can't be fashionable when i'm outdoors anymore ;__;
>>51585819
You might have poor circulation. Try doing stretches in the mornings and start taking cold showers. Cut alcohol for a while if you can.
>>51585693
Isn't Fairbanks pretty expensive? I don't know if a 1.5x salary bump is worth it, not even just considering the cost.
>>51585819
And don't you have a big parka? It's a lot more convenient than wearing a million layers.
>>51585852
yeah i work lift weights in the mornings and everything, got good circulation
i've only been here for a month actually, that's the problem, im just not used to jumping from a Texas October to an Alaska November/December. Ya feel me?
>>51585940
Ah, yeah. You need to build up that brown fat. Give it a while, you'll get used to the cold.
>>51585900
Fairbanks is damn expensive, but I'm getting about $45,000 dollars / year more here, so it should even out decently. I'm honestly here because I want take some time off from my boring and lackluster Texan life, I feel like I've been spoonfed too much. I'll get a few of years of Alaska under my belt to toughen me up.
And yeah I have a few massive parkas. Those things can only help so much though
>>51585958
how long do you give me? If I don't get used to it by February, I'm gonna be real pissed
>>51586097
You'll get the hang of it. There are actual Africans around here who wear less than I do in the winter so I wouldn't worry about your genetics or whatever.
>>51586207
Yeah I was joking with the genetics thing LOL. But I believe get used to weather is a real thing. So if an African is born and raised in Alaskan taiga, they're gonna probably be better off than a Scandinavian guy from Florida
>>51586275
>Yeah I was joking with the genetics thing LOL.
Oh, alright. People get pretty weird about racial theory stuff on this board so you never know.
