Newfoundland joined Canada like 60 years ago or something around there after ww2, so its got a distinct culture like the other guys are posting up there. it's also pretty poor compared to the rest of canada
all reserves are shit holes, you either go there to buy cheap darts or because you like huffing gasoline. the crime rates are 10x higher than the rest of canada, literally. our territory nunavut has a murder rate of like 30/100,000 which is worse than detroit and comparable to a shitty central american country

rural north ontario is forests and small communities centered around thunder bay, sudbury and north bay

I'm surprised no Puerto Ricans or diaspora have answered this already, but in the interest of feeling smart, I'll answer from what I know as a hispanic with a lot of Puerto Rican friends.
Puerto Rico is a small island with a population of 3 million people, which is more than 28 states. Its capital, San Juan, is essentially the entire island's population, and is the second largest city in the West Indies.
Recently, there have been a lot of economic problems due to the government being ran by inept idiots. As a result, anyone who wants to have a future has left the island. Thousands are leaving each year, leaving behind mostly idiots and losers to continue fucking up the country. Most people are dependent on government welfare, the government itself is dependent on the US government for subisidies.
The majority of the population only knows Spanish, and it is possible to live there your entire life there without learning English. This is part of the reason that despite the country voting more in favor of statehood everytime a vote is held, the island won't be admitted into the union anytime soon. The other problem is that the Puerto Rican government would have to start paying taxes to the federal government if it joined the union, and of course, they do not want to do that.
As it stands, Puerto Rico is mostly dependent on tourism for their economy. The advantage it has over other Caribbean islands is that Americans do not need to get a passport to travel there.

Because the concept of nationality is entirely different. In Russia, there are still 19th century ideas of what it is to be an ethnicity, while most of Western Europe changed to civic nationalism and transcended concepts of "race" so now anyone can be French, British, American, German or Australian or whatever if they WANT to be. It makes less sense to me that some magical and completely undefinable blood make someone a certain ethnicity (I understand "white", "asian", "black", etc. but anything more is literally fantasyland thinking)
