New Zealand is a fascinating island because it rose out of the ocean, meaning there are no native mammals. It's one of the few places in the world where birds evolved to fill all the same niches that terrestrial mammals fill on other continents/ islands. Now there are strange parrot species like this Kakapo that live there. They can't fly, live underground, eat plants, and fill the same ecological role as rabbits. Hope I can go there someday to see it for myself before they all go extinct.

I shot a seagull in the throat with a bb gun once, I saw a black little hole in its neck then the head slumped forward and it drifted out to sea only to be eaten by another seagull
