Why is British cuisine so “simple” while its surrounding countries of France, Spain, and Italy have God-tier elaborate cuisines?
What makes the difference between it and them?

Most of the British "cuisine" you hear about is actually the food they ate during WW2 while the Germans were bombing them.

We can thank the Yanks for this one.

They came into the war after we'd been fighting alone against the might of Nazi Germany and on food rationing for months. Their soldiers waltzed into the UK from comfy insulated America and started complaining about le terrible British food.

So much they had to issue a guide to living in Britain which told them to stop complaining everything you're entering a war zone.

Dumb Yanks believing WWII shit is also the reason they think the French are le surrender monkeys XD.
>>
>>51432231
adjective: elaborate
Jˈlab(ə)rət/
1. involving many carefully arranged parts or details; detailed and complicated in design and planning.

Things that take some time to cook != elaborate. There's nothing complicated about cooking seafood and sauce with pasta. And even if the dish was elaborate (it's not) a single (or even a few) cherry picked example doesn't prove anything other than how desperate you are, faggot.
>>
>>51432231
The only "difficult" part is cleaning the mussel, and it's more time consuming that complicated.

French cuisine is shit. Cannot speak for Spain. English cuisine is great, OPenis.

english food is good, honestly, but it still lacks complexity or ingenuity that the french or italians have.

>Why is British cuisine so “simple” while its surrounding countries of France, Spain, and Italy have God-tier elaborate cuisines?
Isolation of the British isles combined with shit weather.

What do the three other countries you mentioned have in common? Both are in favorable climates which encourage agriculture (most of the EU's agricultural output still comes from these countries, especially France) as well as being on the Mediterranean, which is the crossroads of three continents. Historically, chefs in those regions had access to ingredients from pretty much all over the world. France even has an extra advantage as it not only borders the Mediterranean, but it's also right between the Latin and Germanic worlds. This is why French cuisine also has some rustic food like quiche or flammkuchen.

What surprises me is why the British never incorporated food from their empire. The French more or less assimilated couscous into their national cuisine, the Iberians assimilated potatoes and tomatoes to the point where almost nobody knows of their South American origins anymore, but what have the British done? The closest thing I can think of is curry restaurants all over Britain, but even those are advertised as Indian food and not assimilated into British cuisine. It could've been world class if they had assimilated Indian and African elements into their traditional cuisine.

Is this the same America that was going through the great depression with city blocks wrapped with lines of men hoping for a loaf of bread?
I know my family survived off of killing and eating wild hares.
You frame it as if Americans were in the dust bowl of Oklahoma just eating big succulent thanksgiving meals every night and cruising in their automobiles down roads paved with gold on their way to dancing at jazz clubs or whatever.
And we're assholes because your food sucks.
Listen, when people who have had to survive off of stale bread and gamey wild rabbits say your food sucks, it's probably because it fuckin sucks.

France, Spain and Italy are the "romance" countries (nothing to do with love - the family of the languages is called the "romance languages")

They are quite similar to each other culturally because their recent history stems from the same and interrelated ethnic groups, eg the gauls, the goths, the visigoths, etc.

Britain was colonised by the Anglo saxons and the Danes (and partly the Bretons from France but they're celtic anyway - very different from their European neighbours).

So we have that nordic / germanic influence that has played a large part in dictating our culture. But then British culture and food evolved on their own to become what we know as British food today. The meats we eat are the animals that are native to Britain - beef, chicken, mutton, venison, lamb, etc. And we eat the crops that grow here - potatoes, root veg, etc. I reckon the reason the Sunday roast became so popular here is because Britain is bloody chilly and you need a good hearty meal once a week to survive through the winter.

Think for once in your goddamn life Japan, Christ.
>>
>>51431576
Because anglos don't give a shit what they eat.
>>
>>51437728

You clearly know nothing m8, tea came from our colonies, and curry has definitely and completely been assimilated into British cuisine, because British curry is completely different from actual Indian curry and we Brits all know that. British curry has changed for British tastes. Chicken tikka massala (most popular dish in Britain OF ALL I think) doesn't exist in India.

You seem to be a bit angry, but I just said British cuisine is "simple", neither "unappetising" nor "terrible".
It's not necessarily worse for foods to be simpler. For instance I really like Sushi but the way of making it is actually simple as fuck.
