Haven't you heard the proverb "Kyiv is the mother of all the russian cities" Every Russian is from Ukraine, one way or another.
Denver has a Russian community that doesnt seem to be very jewish or Ukrainian.
Funny enough I think they are all second generation criminals though. If you research Denver was one of the cities Russian mafia chose to operate in during the 1980's. Out of the ones I've met most seem to identify with St Petersburg and the girls are usually blonde haired.
My great-grandparents came from what's now Ukraine, but they were Russian-speaking Jews. I think that's how it is for a lot of other people.

The Soviet Union was pretty much created/controlled by Jews up until Stalin came into power and decided to start changing things.
Hence why most Jews hate Stalin but still love the early Soviet Union.

Russia is actually pretty Antisemitic. My mom left because of the harassment she got before the USSR fell. My uncle chose Israel because he couldn't afford a ticket to the US but came here to Miami after going to school in Israel.
I have second cousins in Russia but I've never talked to them.
She was from Kazan tho. I don't think that's part of Ukraine.

I was speaking about Russian nationals but you're very right. I think only around 10% of Jewish Americans have roots in Russia proper, but Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine were part of the Empire when our ancestors came over.

The Mensheviks, who advocated non-authoritarian socialism, were like half Jewish. The Bolsheviks actually manipulated the anti-Semitism of the common people to secure support.
