This. Growing up in the US all us Jewish kids only got presents on channukah so that we wouldn't feel left out of Christmas. Family still gets each other stuff even though we're all grown up now.

Bradley Manning is sentenced for 35 years, but is expected to be released much sooner (based on the past, yet considering the scale of his offence- I'll gamble on 20-24 years).
The thing with Pollard, is that it also drew some harsh treatment from the system with basic things like being denied medical treatment in jail and up to a general and other officials giving false statements in his trial (and not punished or even corrected- despite proved to lie) and federal committees saying his release is long overdue getting gagged (it got known by documents getting leaked).
The entire system was acting as if with the idea of "fuck this guy, JFK's assassin would've gotten a fair treatment and trail before he would" (not to say the trail wasn't fair, but the type where the judge just waits 'till it's over to send the fucker to jail and doesn't care the testimonies aren't consistent or diverge from the truth- because what's the difference).
For a US citizen this would seem legitimate- and I can relate to that, but looking from the side (though, also, not objectively) it looks like you went out of your way to brake your own standards for a man that, de-facto, caused no damage to you while people who caused dramatic damage to you got (relatively) a much more respectful treatment.
