Do you think people grade their ability in their L2 (non-native) languages fairly/accurately? Generally, how good are the skills of people who claim to be native level/near native/fluent?
>>50997608
the tests are bullshit.
the word for 'thankyou' is n3. n fucking 3
if you can watch a tv show comfortably and read what you want you're fluent.
>>50997662
>if you can watch a tv show comfortably and read what you want you're fluent. You can't read any kanji, and you say you are fluent? How Aussie you are?
Why do you pricks here you always bully and say us on 4chan Japanese can't speak English due to the lack of conversation skills.
>>50998113
Because English native speakers have a very high standard for what is considered being good at English. Mainly because there are so many English speakers and also correcting peoples grammar on internet has pretty much became a meme.
Most of you japs on here have fine English.
>>50998113
i got here late. i don't bully you lol
so defensive, you expose yourself to ridicule learning another language and i got plenty from your people
>>50998231
>has
>became
>>50998600
Are you trying to correct my grammar? Its just past tense.
>>50998692
Technically you use then perfect form with has/have (eg: eaten, written). Of course "become" has the same past and perfect form.
>>50998740
Oh interesting. Maybe that could be another topic for discussion.
>have you experienced major decline in your native language skills from learning a L2 L3 etc.
My english really started to suck after learning Korean for 5 years.
>>50998113
>You can't read any kanji, and you say you are fluent? How Aussie you are?
i didn't even read that bit. what do you think 'read what you want' means? fuck off
>>50998787
I don't think one's native tongue can devolve to being utter shit.
Your English was always shit lad.
>>50998231
>Most of you japs on here have fine English.
Thanks America, but I don't think so. Fluency level should exist on the top of mountain. Our English sucks I admitted fairly it. I myself can't speak English well and it is not fine enough compared to other people especially from Eurons.
Europeans speak English fluently and it always stings my motivation for learning English to be like them.
I wish I could speak English like them. Always. We need to change education system, it sucks.
4ch/int/ is the place to understanding other culture that's why me and other Japanese visit here for.
Fluency of any language skills should be defined as that any person can understand reading, speaking, hearing comprehension skills as well as
the comprehension skills to understand the ways of thinking of its native people and cultural differences.

そんなに気にするもんか
ここが4chan、荒らしばっかりのところだ

I study latin and english at my university
In the english department we often have exchange students, in the latin department much less so and when they come they usually feel fucking destroyed.
I don't know if it's my uni or the entire country, but it seems like we have quite high standards in latin on the university level.
>>50998894
>Europeans speak English
Except Slavs and Latins.
>>50997608
Brits never respond me.
I felt sad and mad a thread tfw the other day.
Brits came and left comment.
Brits said the Japanese can't speak English, and you can't say funny thing.
You know that feel?
because he
>>50999004
made*
I can't even spell it right.
>>50999004
>wanting brit attention
>>50997608
No until you see them interacting with natives.
Some japanese people specially old men and between male friends, speak so fast i dont understand shit. Im trying to listen to JUNK podcast and it so fucking difficult.
I also think the tests are bullshit, school is bullshit, everything is fucking bullshit, it all depends in how far you wanna take your L2 and L3.
>>50999004
It's okay nippon-san, I still like you
>>50998984
Germans have cases in their grammar.
For others, it's really weird to learn about dative, accusative etc.
>>50999062
It's similar in old english, back when the language still had actual grammar
when anglos come here and get into an Old English course they don't understand shit while you can read many Old English sentences as a German and just understand them.
Though of course that's also because Old English is still quite Germanic
>>50997608
I think the better you get at it the more humble you get with self ratings, hence why people are so heavily hesitant to call themselves fully fluent in their l2 even when a native insists they are.
>>50998231
I fucking hate going to the states man, everyone expects me to speak perfect native english and perfect native spanish.
My accent is so bad that once a black girl cashier from whataburger tried to talk to me in spanish, i was surprised.
However when i go to japan and use my intermediate japanese i get good reactions and people seem surprised. feels good man.
pic related, its my accent

Gooks
I learned this word when I visited on /int/ for the first time.
> trolls
But it suits for autistic people like me.
People on /int/ suck too, therefore it fits me.
You can learn things bad and dark sides of other countries from here that's good stuff.
>>50998825
>>50998868
I love you. kiss my ass.
