Yes, we were forced into it because of the kiel treaty from the napoleon wars, but we served as Denmark's vessel so we had no quarrels in that war to begin with. Denmark had to give Norway to Sweden. Sweden permitted us to build our country from the very start after that, with our first universities and our own government and everything that a country needs. Sweden were bro.
I assume that's because by sea all the coastal areas are much faster to get to from southern norway or possibly even copenhagen than it is by land from stockholm.

The university was built three years before we were ceded to Sweden, but the part about the government is pretty much true. Pretty sure the Swedes had no true hatred of the Norwegian people, nowhere close to the feeling toward the Danes.Most likely they saw little need to keep up what would have been a long and costly, and if not won in a timely manner, embarresing campaign. It was better for all parts to just accept a monarchy union where Norway was permitted to do most things by ourselves. All expect foreign relations and the military, which was reserved for the government in Sweden, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, the idea at the start of the campaign was probably annexation, but after Sweden lost a bunch of skirmishers against Norway that slowed down a union was an acceptable choice to both sides, because the outcome of the war was already clear, the only question was how costly it would be to both sides.
