Just like 200 years ago.
Ok we will build some new architecture, but still I highly doubt that suddenly a lot will change. Europeans are too focused on past.
>>38598803
atleast here in stockholm the demand for inner city housing is enormous. sooner or later as our population grow we will be forced to build skyscrapers
>>38598878
or you could just sprawl out into the surrounding countryside
>>38598878
I guess Scandinavia will go into modern low rise housing like this more than skyscrapers. Of course you will build some but rather to less extent.
I love these threads, shame they die quickly.
Here's the very disappointing London walkie talkie sky garden, although it's really just an observation deck with some plants. It has a great view though.
How many of you live in an apartment tower/block, and how much noise do you hear from the other units? I live in a hotel that was converted into apartments. It's a really small bachelor, which I like, with a nice view, but I can hear this constant low murmur from the TVs of my neighbours. It's not very loud, but it's driving me fucking nuts, like a leaky faucet that I have no control over. I'm starting to lose faith in density and cities.
The south korean building design that caused massive butthurt with Americans because they say it resembles the twin towers

Lawl. I have no problems like this in Warsaw.
>>38599092
Depends, in older apartment blocks I often heard my neighbours when they walk around if they didn't have a carpet or when they play music but that's about it. In the new apartment blocks the walls are a lot more soundproof so I can't hear them unless if they're screaming

>>38598927
That's what the Stockholm metropolitan area is. But there is only so much you can spread outwards from the city center before it becomes a nuisance for businesses and workers, commuting for over an hour or even two to get to work just isn't feasible.
>>38599092
>How many of you live in an apartment tower/block, and how much noise do you hear from the other units
Had a neighbour that played the drums. He was loud. But this only happened once a week or something.
Had a neigbbour that through parties once every few months. They would go on late into the night, and that was annoying.
Had one neighbour, above me, who kept me up all night screaming at her boyfriend. I barely heard him all night, but she was yelling her tits off.
Currently have a neighbour on my floor who very often arrives back at about 11 to 12ish at night; and he never closes the doors quietly in the hallway, or the front door. That is a bit annoying.
All in all, though, the neighbours are fine.
Much worse is the noise of bikes going past (I live in the city centre, so it is quite busy). Bikers who rev their engines unnecessarily should be shot in the head.
Barcelona
>>38599286
Doesn't bother people in London and Paris. An hour commute time for those living in the outer boroughs is pretty normal actually.

And i'm not talking about the criminality.

I'm living in a city with population of over 14 millions. It's better to visit big cities, not to live in them. Though i liked Berlin very much, it's my kind of city. if only it had a sea nearby...
>>38600516
I don't think he's wrong. If you asked the average american in the 90s what they thought of london, they probably would have thought that Big Ben +the bridge were the two tallest structures. They hyper-futuristic london is cool, but probably not what most people imagine when they think of the UK
>>38600466
London just has too much disgusting postwar stuff.
Compare the average small building in London to the average small building in Paris.
Londons density is also pretty weak in most parts. You get lots of empty concrete spaces that look dull and ugly.

Berlin has less than 4 million in its metropolitan area.
The City, London
>>38600583
Berlin is a "small" big city, that makes it much more enjoyable and good living than other European megalopolis like London or Paris. As far as i'm concerned, 5 millions is the limit from which a city can be nice to live in.
Obligatory
So how long till we see cities like this?
>>38600658
Berlin is a meme city.
It knows it can never compete with London or Paris, so instead of being a serious city it is turning itself into a tourist attraction, rebuilding old quaint buildings for old people to wander around taking pictures.
>>38600658
I know, but it's still a big city. Personally i dislike Moscow where i live and have some plans to move out, definitely abroad. That's not the paradise city, it's more something opposite.
Amsterdam
>>38600705
London doesn't feel like there are 8 million people living there to be honest due to how spread out it is. If you compare the population density of London to Paris London looks like a village.
>>38597516
A few more
>>38600750
No it's not, Berlin is pulsing with life. Just like with London it was bombed to shit, so it doesn't just rely on its beauty like Paris, it actually innovates. Its also not large enough to be claustrophobic and overcrowded like Paris and London are.
>>38600842

It is not large enough to be a relevant city.
Berlin is a city for hipsters who want to surround themselves with other failures.

>>38601084
It's pretty weird for me that both Poland and Germany don't have any big metropolies...
Melbourne Streets

>>38601125
That's because it's mostly countryside while greater London only includes the city. If you want a fair comparison then you compare Paris metropolitan area to the London commuter belt which is basically the London metropolitan area

I'm certainly not going the one saying that Paris is a nice city to live in, but the all "Paris just rely on the historical buildings" shit really is retarded.Paris is far ahead of Berlin when it comes to modernity and innovation.
The main problem of Paris is that it has grown out of proportion to become some oversized monster, hosting 13 millions people in a 65 millions inhabitants country.
A quaint town an hour or two from Melbourne
>>38601315
Greater London has 8 million and Metropolitan Paris has 10 million so it's basically same shit.

>>38601817
It's not the same shit at all because Paris metropolitan area goes far out from the city's borders. Just look at the pic I posted. No where in Greater London is close to being as densely populated as the urban areas of paris. Even our most densely populated borough which is Islington.
>>38601163
I see your point and you're right but there still are several cities with 1 million or more inhabitants in France.
>>38601896

>also there are better looking condos than this
Which make up a minority. You just need to look on google maps to realise the majority of buildings are similar to this
>>38601905
True, but Paris still utterly dominates France. In Germany, there are a fuckton of little regional cultures and dialects
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand the old culture in Brittany and the South is pretty much dead and replaced with generic "french" culture, which itself if very much parisian-oriented
>>38601898
So what is Paris urban area population and density?
>>38600818
>>38601163
We have quite a lot of big cities in the UK, unavoidable really since England has the highest population density in Europe.
>>38602073
>We have quite a lot of big cities in the UK
No you don't. Outside of London theres literally nothing over 2 million. If you think that is big than you should travel some more.
>>38602049
>Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand the old culture in Brittany and the South is pretty much dead and replaced with generic "french" culture
No that's not really true, it's just French people being French, and going full retarded wanting to cut some head off, making big deals over nothing. The regional cultures in Britanny, Corsica, Alsace or Pays basque still are very strong. Some things like the language are declining yes, but this has nothing to do with some parisian masterplan, it's just how the world is going. Globalisation is to blame for that, not Paris or anything else.
>>38599092
I live in a little house but I used to live in flats. One house would have parties that were loud but most were okay. When that one flat had parties I'd just hit the roof with a broom every now and then and get shouted at for it. When I had parties they'd try to do the same thing through the floor and it didn't work so well.
