I'm fine with animated movies dubbed as long as the dub is good. There are in fact a few movies like Ice Age and Lion King that I prefer in Finnish. Lion King maybe because I watched it dubbed when I was a child. I saw Ice Age in English first, but after seeing it dubbed in Finnish, I decided it was better because of dubs so good that the voice actors actually exceed the original.
Live action however should never be dubbed. And Simpsons, Futurama or South Park. Finland has never dubbed those though.

It's not like reading subtitles is tiring or mentally demanding, nobody said that. It's just that dubbed TV is more convenient - you don't have to look at the screen all the time, you can talk to friends and still understand what's going on and you can even close your eyes and relax while just enjoying the audio. Televisie-programma's, reclames, films en boeken worden nog steeds gewoon naar het Nederlands vertaald. Het overspreken van films is niet veel voorkomend bij films en tv-programma's (in welke taal ze ook mogen zijn) omdat je hiervoor relatief dure acteurs voor nodig hebt voor een klein Nederlandstalig afzetgebied, kortom, overspreken is simpelweg niet rendabel.

And I don't think it's bad that dubs exist, though I personally prefer subtitles in any case.

Het is een FEIT dat de VS nu de grootste verspreider is van het Engels in Europese landen (vooral in Scandinavië), op alle mogelijke vlakken.
Het is dan ook geen toeval dat de meest "vrouwvriendelijke" en "progressieve" landen van Europa in Scandinavië liggen. Kijk maar op Tumblr naar al die idiote Zweden/Denen/Noren die Engelse uitspraken over 'patriarchy' en 'white privilege' overnemen en hanteren.
In Frankrijk, Spanje en, in mindere mate, Duitsland heb je dat veel minder. Omdat het Engels daar niet zo verankerd is in het leven van de mensen. De nationale media (in al haar vormen, inclusief online) heeft daar een veel sterkere positie.
Ik spreek ook vloeiend Frans en ik zie dat zelfs Frankrijk nu meer en meer gevoelig begint te worden voor Amerikaanse opvattingen en ideeën, maar gelukkig nog niet zo erg als Scandinavië en Nederland.
