99% of the responses are going to be from people born after the fall of communism. Honestly, the ask Reddit threads about this have some good answers. From what I can tell, the general consensus is, it sucked, but there was some redeeming qualities about it. People liked the sense of security and stability in brought, and the egalitarianism was nice (one example I remember reading was that some kid enjoyed growing up in East Germany because nobody was bullied for being from a different social class, and all the state subsidized summer camps and stuff provided a sense of community). As far as the bad things, that should be pretty obvious. Infrastructure sucked, service on a lot of things was slow, less wealth in general, less recreational activities, etc etc.
