Asia is a very large continent. England has a long history with the areas of India and Pakistan, so it's only natural they would call those people asians, because they are from the asian continent that Britain is most familiar with.
Same goes for the United States. They have a lot of history with Korea and Japan, so they consider people from that area of the continent as asians.
