Sup /int/, first time on this board. I need help from Norwegians, people that have a lot of experience/ know a lot about Norway, and perhaps Scandinavians in general if the cultures are similar enough.
I'll be going to Norway to work on a commercial fishing trawler pretty soon, I don't know a lick of Norwegian except from what I've picked up in trying to apply for the job, which is the word 'Kontakt'.
SO any tips for a guy that will be spending the next few months at least around Norwegians, and occasionally in Norway?

My advice is to just learn the language and go there full-naïve/ignorant mode, so you'll allow yourself to get impressed by a foreign culture. You'll eventually learn everything from your colleagues so it's pointless to research further. I don't see the point in some people's mentality of imbuing themselves in another culture before even setting foot in their destination.
Learn the language beforehand, I can't emphasize this enough.

Anyway, the only tip I can give is that you don't have to deal with tipping. That's probably the biggest difference between Norway and USA. Also, everyone speaks English.
