Why would you bother "owning" a home? More often than not, "homeowners" are just forever-mortgage slaves. You save and save and save for the down payment, then wind up paying off the mortgage, with interest, AND property tax, for the rest of your life. If you rent, you pay rent...no property taxes, no interest, no massive hole in your bank account from a down payment.

Literally what is the point of owning a car, especially if you live in a city? With a car, you pay for the car, pay for gas, pay for maintenance, pay for repairs, pay for insurance, pay for parking, pay to drive on certain highways...with public transit, you get a monthly pass (less than 100$, generally), and you're set. You hop on a bus, or subway, and you go where you need to go. That's it. You can also get around while you're drunk.
