In a life drawing class, would it be inappropriate to ask the model for feedback on your work? I would imagine they have a pretty good idea of what a good rendering of them looks like.

sounds awkward

Why would you think this?
>>
absolutely, i would also suggest simply laying in the general shape and then focus all remaining effort on various erogenous zones before asking them their opinion

Don't talk to the models unless they start talking to you first

If you want feedback... ask your instructor or your peers.

Figure drawing model here.

Don't talk to the models unless they start talking to you first. Some models are lenient with this but it's generally a good rule if you're not already a familiar face to the class.

Don't ask for feedback from the model. Chances are you're not very good at drawing and they'll be weirded out by you giving them a hitler stach or pepperoni nipples. :(

Reality check: Oil paintings in ye olden times were first and foremost signaling wealth and feeding ego of their owners. Nudes were just objects made of body parts belonging to various models and they were always looking at the viewer, ergo - owner of a painting. In case there were portraits or landscapes made, they also signaled wealth of the art collector or for example land that belonged to him.

What I want to say - if you do classical things like drawing models you shouldn't even consider them human. Most artists don't, they don't give two shits about poor sob/bitch that gets paid laughable amount of money to be used as a but fancier still life.

They aren't human OP, it's just meat. You shouldn't even acknowledge it exists and talk with your fellow artist like it isn't in a room.

are you retarded?
>>

models are usually the scum of the earth. I just ignore them if they try talking to me. No offense to them, but think about what shape their life must be in if that is the best thing they can think of to make money.
>>
>>2587770
All of the life models I've worked with are all working artists, so sometime it really helps for feedback, but just make sure they're clothed first.
>>
>all these insecure fatty boom-booms that are ugly as fuck and can't draw worth dick talking like the models are the ones who are sub-human

lol

Ok fuck this thread, what was the hottest live model you've seen?

sound about right

Most models managed to get through 4 years of art school with out learning to draw. I would not recommend it.

Also do every 1 a favor and dont creep on the hot models. Makes every 1 uncomfortable.

A woman in her thirties who was not fat or weird looking in any particular way. Rather fit, probably a dancer.

If you look amazing naked, there are far more lucrative opportunities available.
>>
>>2588048
I had a total milf at one of my life drawing classes. She was 39( she told us it was her birthday). I think my favorite part about the session was during the break she walked out to get coffee from the Timmies in the other hall wearing nothing but a trench coat.

Shit was porn tier

Yes, it is inappropriate to interact with the model unless you are the instructor of the drawing class. The instructor and other students are there for you to ask for feedback. The reason this barrier exists is to prevent an academic scenario involving nudity from becoming a non-academic scenario involving nudity. Some models look at students' work, but it's still only appropriate to speak with them if they approach you and speak to you first. If you cross this line, you may be ejected from the session or class. The correct way to attempt to communicate with the model initially is to go through the instructor, who will then deem whether or not it is appropriate. Have you ever been in a life drawing class?

I am about to attend some life drawing classes the next couple of days and I'll probably try out charchoal. never worked with it, any tips on the workflow?
>>
>>2589548

Dumbest set of rules I've ever heard, but then I live in Sweden where someone getting naked isn't this astronomic event. I'm guessing you're american? I've had countless of life drawing hours and in one atelier I went to we where even encouraged to correct the model if she/he was doing something wrong. They also freely spoke with us all on breaks.
>>
>>2589552
Dont care about how your stuff looks. Dont care about how you want to be better than the others and make a good impression.
>>
>>2587770
Gotta say, that drawing's beautiful
>>
>>2589554
Huh? Not that guy, but America isn't that different, dude. nude models perform the same function as they do elsewhere

It probably just depends. Maybe some are friendly, and want to see, maybe not, and you're going to look strange if you try. It probably has nothing to do with culture or a certain concrete set of model etiquette
>>
>>2589563
I don't, I can zone out pretty well when I work, but I was hoping on some technique tips. like I said, I never worked with charcoal before
>>
>>2589576
There is different kind of charcoal. What are you using? Vine? Vine is pretty soft and you can easily create shadows by using your fingers. draw a heavier coreshadow than you see and pull some of the charcoal with your finger to create halftones and ambient shadows. (obv. dont do this for cast shadows) Use a eraser for highlights. Other than that the usual workflow hard to explain but its a lot of fun.

Been running life drawing classes for a year now. Not sure how autist tier you cunts are but most models are cool, just talk to them like any other person for fucks sake.

well it felt clunky as hell. I know it's way too dark and props are messed up. I don't know how to do a broad stroke. the paper only seems to take the point, not the side of the charcoal.
I was using both vine and compressed charcoal - didn't have a modeling clay with me.

>Sweden

I heard immigrant students are allowed to rape the models there.
>>
>>2589554
While I wouldn't say everything should go through the instructor like the other anon, I would say it's mostly a breach of roles.

Models aren't artist usually. They're only their to get paid for posing. It would be beyond the "call of duty" to give feedback on artwork. That's the instructor's job.
