That's how most of his color keys look like. How exactly is it bad? It reads very well from the thumbnail, thus it does its intended job perfectly fine.

Incompetent control over saturation levels, edges all over the place, noodly brushwork and to not speak of the unappealing shapes and drawing of the figures. Yuck! It's irrelevant if it did it's job as a profuction art piece. It's incompetently painted. But that's ok. It serves to remind us that even great artists put out subpar work when under tight deadlines.

it's not bad at all you dumbshit. The thumbnail reads really well, it just needs some refinement...I would probably get rid of the highlights on the left side and tone down the highlights on the kids a little. Minor tweaks in composition like sort of enclosing off the right edge somehow, pushing the shadow background areas darker to pop the main characters forward...tighten up the painting on foreground characters...maybe a little on background...but it's something that's on its way to being a decent piece.
