I'm more interested in why it comes across as tacky, because I kind of like it, and it has some nice atmosphere and lighting effects...
Is it because the lighting from every window is exactly the same? Is it that idyllic warm glow coming from literally every window and storefront, whereas in a more realistic painting you'd see more variation and harsher lights?
I save a lot of fanart of Gravity Falls, even though I couldn't give a rat's ass about the show itself, and found it very annoying when I tried to watch it, because they give me a vision of what the show *could* have been, and a lot of them are very expressive and cute.
