I am very interested in designing slot machines. You have a platform where people are excited to see your art appear on the screen. You get to create an experience for people centered around a theme. The process though basically boils down to: saturation to 11, bigger boobs, more rimlights, more saturation, more rimlights, more colour goddamit, and bigger boobs. The colours need to be strong and saturated so that it's identifiable even when spinning and a blur. And if you paint then you probably are too slow and they will pressure you to just use stock photos or steal photos and try to hide it.

Well that won't happen. The people at the top use their research stats to say "people LOVE the theme of blahblah, and company A and company B both have that theme and are successful, so let's make a clone of it.".
They also have insanely short deadlines and will put it out the door even if it isn't nearly as good as it could be. They just want to pump them out, and let's be honest, most players can't tell or don't care if it is shit.

Yes and no, it depends on the company a lot. I've done slots design twice. Once was a few years ago for a really big company and I just did a couple pieces freelance and got paid 1500 per piece. The other time I was a part of a small studio designing them and I got 15 an hour.

Centaur is my favorite. I love the minimalist use of color here, and the style which looks like something out of Heavy Metal magazine. If I have any artistic goal it's learning to draw like this.

I don't think the code is too hard, I imagine it is easy to put together in game maker, after all it basicly rolls a number then displays the animations and images accordingly. And the bonus games are roughly the same.
