there's this mullins painting of a wooden shack sitting in some dense forest. it looks unbelievably traditional. i don't have it anymore but even the psd in floating around on the internet somewhere.

Yes. Digital art can't simulate the complexity of brush strokes yet, though.

Usually it's pretty easy to distinguish traditional from digital.

there is a method that involves embossing, to get paint thickness, that's a little complicated. lazy nezumi is recommended in some tutorials for simulating brush motion. cgpeers has a tutorial about it up on there somewhere.

Im sure there are programs to emulate it. I often use a filer to give it texture like paper.
