Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

Aight brahs. I read that symbol drawing poster and will try that, but in the mean time I need help with values.

I hear some people say to start light and slowly build up values and others say to lay down the darkest values first to judge the rest. With the light to dark my drawings end up being washed out and take a long time. With the dark to light I end up covering important shit with blackness and cant adjust the wrest of it.

If some 1 wanted to do a quick paint over of shadow shapes that would be kool.

Also camera is potato quality so it made every thing blurry and grainy.

you don't need help with values, that comes later. worry about constructing a proper figure first.
>>
So I'm currently reading drawing on the right side of the brain, and I did the upside down drawing of pablo picasso. The problem is, everything looks bad, like the face is lopsided and i made the right hand significantly larger than the left. I did the vase practice pretty well, and even my pre instruction self portrait looked good. So why was this one so bad? It says after the drawing that "I can confidently predict you will be pleased with your drawing..." So obviously I was supposed to do good on this drawing, but everything is out of proportion and the lines are misplaced. So what am I missing here?
>>
>>2511207
You're not missing anything. What you were supposed to take away was the feeling of drawing something totally alien to you and not relying on symbols when you draw something. You are supposed to integrate that into studies.

Just construction wise, practice drawing the gesture of said picture 4 or 5 times. Your rendition is coming out very stiff. Exaggerate the bend of the torso, the angle of the shoulder and the hips. Worry more about the action of the figure. Also arms are too low.

What's your guys opinion on Loomis anatomy? I mean, the man is a god when it comes to faces, but I want to know how you feel about the body he draws. Been studying his construction method, and I'm not sure how I feel about it... Sometimes I feel like I'm improving and sometimes I feel like I'm not. But then I look at his anatomy and I feel "meh" too. Should I stick with bridgman only? I wanted to post my art, but I'm working tradicionally and don't have camera.

You said it yourself - lines are misplaced and everything is out of proportion.

Do more of similar drawings/life drawings/still life/calligraphy to build in yourself careful and precise stroke placement and drawing in proportion.

In a year your Picasso will look much better.

Any traditional painters here? I have a huge trouble with creating colors and using a big brush to paint them on paper. It's like I always make too little paint to cover the area I want. It also seems like I don't have enough place on the palette to create a color I want. I'm just starting and can't find the right one in a first try. I have to turn in 3 paintings, even shitty ones, just to pass the semester. I really really want to paint and I don't have that much trouble with painting digitally eh ignore my shitty english I'm like fucking crying right now since I don't know what to do, I have only 2 weeks and I can't do anything because I have no idea how to paint using bigger brush like pic rel

Loomis' comes from an illustration background, mostly focusing on advertisements. A lot of his anatomy is idealized and not overly detailed for the sake of expediency (illustrators had to work under crazy deadlines.) It's still good, but there are likely more detailed sources out there.
>>
>>2511670
Without a reference picture of yourself, it's a little difficult to criticize the likeness of your drawing.
At first glance your drawing definitely doesn't read as 'asian' to me. Asians tend to have a pronounced epicanthal fold that covers their upper lid (giving them their 'slanty eyes') They also tend to have higher cheekbones and rounder faces than Caucasians. Their noses are usually wider with a flatter bridge. Hair tends to be straighter and is almost always black.
These are all generalizations though and may not apply to you.

I guess this might be the best place to ask...

So I want to get into making youtube videos about whatever. I wanna make some analysis stuff, maybe some comedy stuff. To get me in the hang of editing things I am working on making a video of a league aram game that im trying to make a bit comedic through editing and some voiceover stuff. It is decently heavy editing and i am currently using a pirated version of AVS video editor but im having issues with it and just got a trial of the legit version. The version for a year is $40 dollars and i can purchase it if i wanted to. But is it decent enough to have something that ill start with? Are there other relatively cheap Video editing softwares that are good for beginners and people learning to make videos?

tl;dr Is AVS video editor good for beginners? is it good at all?

>>
>>2511853
I REALLY hate it for multiple reasons, but you should just stop rushing your drawing when you run out of space ( hips)
>>
>>2511853
Torso looks short. I'd lower the position of the navel. The position of the arms are baffling, you draw as if the hands are coming up and cupping the breasts from below, meaning the elbows should be pulled back and the shoulder pushed forward, but the shoulders are angled as if the elbows are thrust out to the sides, so the hands should be coming straight from the sides, not at a downward angle, and the breasts should be pushed up to near the level of the clavicle, the shoulders rotated and bulging outwards, and about a triangle of negative space from the armpit, to the inside of the elbow, to the wrist and against the slope of the ribcage for it to seem plausible. Her neck is pretty thick for the rest of her body, as are her hands.

In all, reference more porn and brush up your perspective.

Whoops, a reference would probably help.

Gonna go do a couple more of these, will report back in an hour or two (I don't spend that long on them I'm just lazy)

>>2512047
You've gota few proportional issues like a small head and are missing some gesture to the pose. I think too you are rushing a bit. Try lowering the opacity of what you have and create a new layer above it for a cleaner and more accurate drawing. Start getting some specific shapes and anatomy and things in there. Right now you have generalized too much.
>>
>>2512005
I know, I keep doing that

>>2512015
Thanks brah. I have yet to entirely figure out hands and their connection to the rest of the body. And not having tits myself makes them kinda hard to draw without way too many refs, I always make people too masculine. That's probably also where the thick neck came from. I appreciate the advice m8
>>
>>2512053
Is putting in more detailed shapes/muscle important to developing good habits regarding proportions/construction? That's all I'm trying to do here, still in my first week of figure drawing.

I could do a more detailed/cleaner drawing but I feel like it wouldn't really help me figure out things like the placement of my ribcage or hands/elbows. No?

Kinda my fault for not specifying what I wanted when I posted the sketch though, it's still good advice. And you're right about the head.
>>
>>2512061
>Is putting in more detailed shapes/muscle important to developing good habits regarding proportions/construction?
Yes and no. It helps you have the ability to take things further and will build a connection in your head between the construction and reality. It also will help with your general observation.

It's best to do a variety of drawings though--some fast, some slow, some construction, some observation, a mix of the above etc.

Also just looked at your image again, and that shape in the torso...is it supposed to be the rib cage? Because it is completely wrong. And if you want construction to be an emphasis I would do a couple cross contour lines especially at the ends of forms. It will really help you understand how things sit in space instead of treating it too flatly.

It was meant to be the ribcage, but I forgot about it pretty early on and started using reference points for construction instead. Is this closer to what it should be, or am I still fucking up?

Also thanks for the advice, interesting stuff. I'm definitely planning to vary it up, I try to focus on something different every day.
>>
>>2512089
That's much better.

I'd also recommend doing the same for the pelvis. It can be a simple construction such as a box, a bowl, or two discs, but you should have an idea of how it sits in space, especially in relation to the rib cage.

I honestly really like this, you tried drawing from a difficult angle and I think you did a great job. I would focus on getting basic shape relationships down. Eyes with relation to each other and the nose and mouth; basic stuff that's really hard. But I think you're doing a great job

>>2511184
First thing I noticed was the ears. They're too high in your right figure. The top of your ear usually rests at the top of your eye or there abouts. It changes with each person, but you definitely have it too high. That was something that was hard for me to fix.

You'll be fine, my first attempts at figure drawing sucked realy hard, my gestures were atrocious, and that is really like 80% of what makes a good figure, the gesture. You can make some poses really stand out if you work your geture, maybe they won't look exactly like the ref, but I favor design over exact recreation.

In this case, the pose is kinda stiff, you know, I tend to avoid these kind of poses when I'm working on gesture. They are still great for learning landmarks, proportion and anatomy, but really look for the more dinamic stuff as it will help you develop more fluidity in your lines, since you'll have to work more with curves as opposed to straight lines

Pic related is my progress so far, those were my first gestures in January up there where I had no idea what I was doing, and the others are from today. I still have a loooong way to go but man it feels good looking at those crappy drawing from then and see the changes
>>

Sorry bro but he's right. The reason that this board has all these "learn figure drawing, LOOMIS, etcetera" memes is that it was originally meant to be an illustration board. Think about it. /ic/. Illustration - critique. You can't really do fundamentals on modern abstract shit anymore, maybe aside from composition and simple color theory.
My personal opinion is that if you want to get into abstract art, sure. But first you should master basic technique. If you can't draw well, how can I be sure you actually have the ability to convey what you wanted to through your work?

>>2512214

You gotta keep pushing, as someone else said, watch other people do gestures, Vilppu is great, but kind of messy sometimes. Remember that there isn't a "correct" way to do gestures, but there are some basic principles that you should follow
Also, study gestures from books, try to analize how other artists use line to represent the motion of a figure. Hampton's book is nice and even gives some useful tips, then there's Ryan Woodward, who doesn't explain shit but have books filled with amazing gestures that are fun to look at.
Eperiment with different time limits, maybe you need some extra seconds for those short gestures. Then do some 3 min ones. Don't worry if you can't draw all the parts in time, just leave them like that. You'll find that some poses are better to practice just the torso, or just the arms, or the neck even. Thing is, you have to LEARN something from each one, not just rush to "finish" them.

Practice

>>
>>2512418
Even with the neck outstretched, your torso is too long. The chest ends at a good place, but your ribcage, and by association bellybutton and crotch, end too low.

I'm not sure if that's an issue of foreshortening but your left elbow doesn't look like it could meet at the bottom of your ribcage (even a fixed one). I also believe that right hand is too small.

How big do you want your fucking cube to be?
>>
>>2512445
I have a mathematics degree and I couldn't tell you that. There is a branch of geometry called projective geometry which deals with the projection of a 3d shape onto the 2d plane, we did a little when I took hyperbolic geometry.
Just keep practicing and you'll get better. It might help if you get an object that is cube shaped and try looking at it and drawing it from different angles.
Another thing that helps is knowing some basic properties of cubes; no matter what angle you draw a cube from, only three faces at most can be seen. Stuff like that.
>>
>>2512445
you change the angles depending on where the vanishing points are on the horizon line, and how far above/below the box is from the horizon line.

i'm guessing this stuff is new to you, so learn about the horizon line and 1, 2 and 3 point perspective then come back to trying to do freehand boxes
>>
>>2512445
the lengths are arbitrary. the angles you can use intuition, or check out scott robertsons 'how to draw' book to learn to calculate the vp's and angles.

I like the start of that, but I feel like the cool/warm contrast is too forced. Having your monster be the only cool thing in the picture helps draw focus to it, but the transition as it currently stands is too harsh. I would either bring some warmth in the creature's shadows, or add cool elements in the environment's shadows. Basically you gotta blend the two a little.

Can someone help me with cross-hatching? Using a Wacom Bamboo and Photoshop. Just can't get the hang of it.It's really fucking hard to get the really close lines with Bamboo. What paintbrush should I be using for it?

impatience is damaging, or it takes 10 years in pure practice to master?

20 hours a day to make it in 10 years

The more you worry about mastery and the less you focus, the longer it'll take.

Draw.

That's one way to take it. Another would be that the student doesn't understand mastery. The harder you work, the farther the goal post is going to keep moving. Even the "masters" of today still see room for improvement. It's not something you're going to catch, and a timeline isn't something you should worry about.

I'd estimate a couple hours a day for 2-3 months if I had to come up with a hard figure. I don't think it's something to fret over.

What are you even doing? Fun with a pencil is practically useless in comparison to Drawing The Head and Hands.
