What does your friend like? What type of apartment/house do they live in (what style decor do they have already)? You probably can pick it out better than we can for your friend. Personally I would choose the one on the left because it is a bit more interesting to me and less like hotel lobby art. But that's my own personal taste. Also if you are on a tight budget, maybe don't buy art? I don't know the price on these, but typically paintings are not worth buying if you have no money.

About 35 bucks each. I was surprised to find them this cheap. They are both 56x38 cm.
He lives in a dorm. Enough said, I think.
I'm actually leaning towards the left one too. I think it's fashionable.
