Speaking anatomically, the sternocleidomastoid seems to be attaching to the back of the head, and in most cases when designing humanoid looking characters try to follow basice human muscle insertions. So the sternomastoid should be connecting behind the ear, and the trapezius should be pulled a bit higher up connecting to the back of the head. You're also drawing scratchy bold outlines around the character, and the bottom of the chin does not line up with the face, as well as the mouth not wrapping around the form, but looking like a frontal view plastered on a 3/4 look on the head.

Some life drawing
I tried to do my best to take pics of these, since I lack the money to buy a scanner, but a few weeks ago I suddenly decided to pick up drawing as a creative outlet. Due to lack of free time thanks to finals week, it's been rough getting the work in, but I think I'm finally starting to get hair. Hands and legs, and proportions in general seem to continue to elude me though.
>>2510079
Yeah, I was trying to draw a skinny person with huge hips, because that's something I find hot, but I think it's a bit early for me to be trying stuff that experimental, when I've barely even started drawing.
I drew myself being assaulted by my favorite graphic novel characters.
too much video games
>>2510110
I like it, but.
Sword is stupid looking, it has a very long grip for such a tiny length of blade. Its also got paddle syndrome, make it thinner. Even if your going for thick powerful cleaver make it thinner then what you have.
I love the screaming faces armour, but the one that stretches from the shoulder to the chest looks stupid, even if its flexible how the hell does he lift his arm.
Helmet should have some breath holes if he isnt a skeletal man. Its also very a restrictive view, you don't go for helmets like that unless the rest of your body is also protected in plate. Helmets that minimize view slits are also more for lancers then foot combat.
Horizontal gaps are also way better then vertical in every way, easier to see through no harder to get a dagger or arrow through.
I like the beasty and skeletal king.

The pose is too stiff, all the limbs are in the right place, but I'm sensing no flow, especially through the shoulders/arms which would be the most important here.
Of course it's not really something you can fix short of practicing a bunch of gesture drawing and redrawing the whole thing. Maybe more useful to keep in mind for future reference. The drawing doesn't look bad as it is, I'd just finish it if I were you.

Many beginner mistakes.
You add too many necessary things that don't help the creature be identified as a dog. Like the whisker circle things that are more rabbit like than dog like.
Keep things simple. Do studies of actual dogs (even if you just draw cartoony ones). Learn where the ears attach and the major cowlicks.
>>2520267
You know even though people on /ic/ praise you I feel like you haven't received enough critique to fix very obvious anatomy problems in these images. Especially with your exaggeration on the abdominal portion of the pectoralis; stop pulling it down so low to where it creates such a horizontal pull line when connecting to the humerus, it looks unnatural when the pose is not put in extreme positions, like a vertical 110 degree+ form for the arms. You also seem to hang your triceps way too low on the humerus, pull them up a bit. As well as totally ignoring the space the brachialis creates between the tricep and the biceps- an extension to that being that you also place your deltoid too far back on the arm, as it seems to be connecting to the lateral head of the triceps instead of on the brachialis. The trapezius should also be pulled down a bit and your sacrum should be a bit higher up on the right model seeing the position of the pelvis. The major thing I see however is your misunderstanding of the gastrocnemius, the inner portion always lies a bit lower than the outer portion and and a c-curve to the leg in frontal, back, and profile positions. I can't recall what most of your work previous to this really looked like but I think the major issues you keep incorporating into your drawings are the abdominal pectoral connection, deltoid connection, and tricep forms. Aside from that you're on the right track, but you should study other artists work rather than staying ignorant and continuing what you are doing wrong.

>>2520622
well thx for the crits, I'm short on time and not on my pc right now so i'll answer quickly.
>pectoralis
I don't really understand what you mean here, a redline would be helpful.
>triceps
yep I sometimes do put them a bit too low, but on these particular ones I think they're placed right.
>Brachialis
I don't agree with you here, I'm not ignoring it, I'm just not defining it too much. the brachialis is visible in extreme flexion of the arm, when it's extended it's barely visible. actually I usually define it by two lines on the outer biceps side and inner triceps line. I also usually combine the brachioradialis and the brachialis in a single block which I did with the outer triceps branch here.
>deltroid
And an extension to my previous explanation is that you can see that the deltoid is placed between the triceps and biceps where the brachialis is, still on the lateral side, just not defined.
>trapezius
where ?
>sacrum
I think you're wrong here but also because my pelvis/obliquus line is a bit too high.
>gastrocnemius
I guess you're right, I'm almost begginer level on legs because I didn't learn much about the muscles, I'll put in more work on the lower part of the leg, thx.
but then again, This is from complete imagination from begining to end, and as for looking up other artists works, I would'nt say i'm ignorant at this stage, I'm just not too interested in that, not because they're no good , but because I want to create and learn my own stuff by myself and not take shortcuts, so the only things i'll look at are medical/factual stuff and go from there.

I like it. But there's something going on here that I want to ask in the questions thread. Something about using simple/less shapes and strokes and creating something that looks better/realistic than something that is polished and detailed, though still having a plastic vibe. I dunno.
>>2507133
Did this in an hour for a project.
>>2521751
I've found it really fun to just try and complete everything as fast as possible
>>2521738
was that a question? If i got what you're saying then I think you mean how dynamic a graphic style can be for art compared to detailed or more realistic style. I don't think simpler means better or realistic, i just think its a different style. Checkout Sparth for really dynamic and semi-realistic stylized graphic illustration. He does concept art for the Halo series.

Thanks for the honesty
also, can I ask a question here? or should I go to a beginner thread?
well I guess this is already a question, so it would be retarded not to ask the actual question
What book should I start with?
I started drawing almost 5 months ago.
I did some drawabox exercises, watched some tutorials, but other than that I just drew what I wanted. No anatomy study yet
I downloaded almost everything from the mega link with the books + videos.
I watched 3 Vilppu lectures, no books yet.
So. TLDR; which book do I start with to git gud?
ps: no intention of "making it", only a hobby (it's pretty calming and meditative for me, but I still want to get better so it feels better to look at and show to others)
>>2522084
I was just drinking coffee when I drew that face. I don't try to draw black. I just used to write graffiti before I started to take drawing seriously. So I guess I have a tendency to "draw black". A friend told me my style looked "street" once. I'll take it.

I don't remember it that well and I don't feel like looking it up in the archives, so correct me if I'm wrong.
There was a thread ages ago in which some delusional Anon claimed to be a great artist and wrote some stupid stuff, then posted "post your work" at the Artist who argued with him. Artist was already pretty angry at the ridiculous stuff the Anon was writing, and when they posted the Picture, some people (maybe just the delusional Anon samefagging) started to nitpick the Picture and act like it was the Artist who was delusional because he's not a mullins. At this point the thread turned into a kafkaesque nightmare, in which the Artist was made to be the bad guy who was full of himself, despite the fact that he had good intentions, had good advice that Anon ignored, and was just really frustrated with Anons stupidity. Anon was a dunning-kruger aspie or a troll, and the one who initiated the dick measuring contest and the one who lost it, but it was the Artist who got his Picture turned into a meme.
Every time I see it, I am reminded not to get into arguments on the internet, especially when someone is horribly wrong.
