That book was so fucking magical to me as a kid and I'm thankful every day that I never got carried away and accidentally poisoned someone.

Anyway, those illustrations are great and it sounds like you might just be a butthurt 'muh style'fag who doesn't understand the difference between an active pursuit of style, and compensation for a lack of skill.
Honestly, I don't think I've ever even seen something in the vein of the OP illustration posted in /ic/. It's not the right place to crit stuff like that, and anyone producing such art probably understands that.
Added to that, there are absolutely professional illustrators who kinda suck.
