Is there a brush setting you guys like using thats good for general blending and digital painting? Photoshop gives me like, a bazillion different brushes and they all do different shit. I only need 5 at the minimum.

Some art styles are entirely dependent upon textured brushes. It's more or less impossible to get a lot of texture into your work quickly with the hard round.
Yes, you can in theory paint every with a hard round. Doesn't mean it's a good idea, or that it's a particulary aestheticly pleasing choice either.
