What are some jobs you guys do to supplement art (if you're making money from art?)

I'm able to make a few hundred bucks from art each month doing it probably 20 hours a week. I've done the full-time hustle but it doesn't really do much to enhance my earnings from it; I just end up overwhelmed. I'd like to do something that's practical and a good use of time that also lets me draw and make the side money from that.

Good jobs/careers that still allow for art time?

Fapping, full time.

there really is none. and if you are serious about this /ic/ is the wrong place to ask.

if i was young enough i'd move back in with my parents. as is, i'm just hoping for a basic income to kick in sooner rather than later and save my life.
>>
>>2446686
First off ask why you haven't achieved your goal.
Perhaps you are really fucking bad at getting people to remember your name (i.e. you can't network which is more important than your drawing skill) or maybe you need to consider different ways to make money from your art such as teaching or writing about art.

20 hours though only works out to ~2.7 hours every week though.

You're getting paid the right amount for how little work you're doing.

I had a nice gig for about 5yrs as a coder. Good work life balance and plenty of time to supplement life with drawing as a hobby.

If you earn enough from your primary work, you are less concerned with earning money with your hobbies, and you can just pursue them for the fun of it. Good work pays well and leaves you with lots of time and energy to spend on your own interests.

2016 has been ass though, I picked up some managerial responsibilities, and I've been too drained to draw. I'll let the career play out a bit, I have a lifetime to get good at drawing.

Did you draw that sona?

how old are you? whats your career path been like?

I code as a way of living. In the country I live, the demand for coders is way to high so the pay is good/above average. I don't work full time and if I did I could be leading a quite comfy life, but I choose to work half the time (5 hours a day) and be tight on money so I can draw and pursue my hobbies.
It's not awesome and sometimes I get tempted to go full time so I can afford all the cool shit my friends are getting but I'm okay and content with my choices so far. Gotta bleed to make it, bro.
>>
You should aim to work part time. Coding may work, but I've never done it. What sounds like the upside is you may be able to work from home. A lot or "full-time" work actually doesnt fill your day, which may be the case with coding. You might only have to do a couple hours of real work.

You can also get more typical part time jobs while moving in with some people to split a rent. It will be hard to get by, and you will have 0 savings, but it is a possibility depending on where you live.

Full time work isnt going to give you time to draw though. You just won't be allowed to do it unless under some specific corcumstances.

have you guys considered getting a job as an artist

what the fuck

Farmer, it obviously depends on what type of crops you are working with but i specialize on garlic and
so i basically only really work full time 3-4 months in the summer season and from october until march i don't
really work at all, and i make pretty good money too, way more than your average company employee here.
Of Course never get married or have kids that should be a given.

are you stupid?

So, exactly what's wrong with getting married?
>>

Coding is the worst thing you can do.

I quit programming job because it paid horribly and I was doing 70 hours a week I.e. 30 hours overtime that was unpaid.

Programming is a meme.

If OP wants easy money just make porn art and learn how to make a game using unity.

29, career is pretty boring. Uni, masters, first and only job. Promoted up various engineering levels, working on engineering manager track now. Eng work was unchallenging, manager work is out of my comfort zone which makes it more interesting, but more tiring.

I see nothing wrong with marriage, it is mutually beneficial - but I'm also married...

>>2447258
>programming meme
A proper company gives medical, stocks, flexible hours, working from home privileges, and job security. You just have to be willing to code. For me programming is pretty brainless, so I come home fresh and ready to draw or build models.

Hahaha. Stay salty. If you take a shit job it's your fault. Code monkey jobs can pay pretty well and give lots of benefits, they are brainless tho. If you are willing to apply yourself a little tho, you can work on some awesome stuff.

Op is asking how to stay alive while also have time to do art, marriage is the opposite of that if free time is what you value.

Uh, night audit at a hotel? My friends all work as night audits and all they do is piss away their time on video games after 2 hours of real work. I never could get a job as one, but that's a place I would look OP.
>>
Lab technician types of jobs, ie. radeologist assistant, pathologist assistant, general lab assistant, etc. jobs are fairly open, mostly easy work, and decent pay though I guess all of that depends on your country/place and type of lab. only downside is that you need to get a certification which takes a year to a year and a half but not really hard. also most of your coworkers will be probably be old ladies.
>>
Pharmacist maybe?
Work is pretty easy and the pay is good. You rarely leave work exhausted, so you have the energy to actually have fun. Only downside is you need to get a deree of some kind which will take probably 4 years.
>>
I think security guard/night shift low-volume service stuff like hotel desk is the standard /ic/ meme for jobs where you can actually draw instead of doing your job most of the time.
>>
hotel desk at night in a small town
>>
>>2450964
It's not like a night shift security guard has much to do unless you work in the ghetto or the place is legit haunted.
You do your rounds, check wether everything is ok, and just stare at screens at regular intervals.
I worked at a mall and the two times someone sneaked in I caught them straight away despite not staring endlessly at the screen because there's so many fucking cameras you enter one's line of sight as soon as you leave the last one's.

Hell the only time I actually had to work in the night shift was because a fucking parrot got loose somehow and I had to scare it away from vents and windows until the pet shop manager arrived.

Thanks for elaborating anon, I worded that post poorly. Are you that guy who spoke a lot about security jobs and drawing? I think I remember a drawing of grapes you posted.
>>
>>2450956
Disagree. Know some pharmacists. Depending on where you work it can be just as shitty as working retail.
>>
>>2452373
My friend does this too. He's a musician, so he spends most of his time at work producing songs on his laptop or studying stuff for school, but it's been working for him for a few years now.
