What does /ic/ thinks of Gerhard Richter's work?
I really liked it when he put paint over those still life photos. That's as far as I know
I always confuse Gerhard and Daniel and personally I prefer Daniel Richter. Though I like the harsh and sterile mood that's present in some of Gerhards work.

no. just no.

Why, anon?
personally....
I see really nothing interesting in abstract art. Only thing it reminds ME of is of failed artists on several drugs trying to find their purpose again.

Typical concept-art nerd.

These like >>2445008 said I like because it reminds me of water on concrete also looks like blood, vomit and general dirt in the streets.
I like how raw they look, it's like a vivid representation of noise, like matter decomposing and the colors are pretty neat as well. I would like to see some of these irl.
>>2444958
I like it. But asking /ic/'s opinion on abstract art is nothing short of trolling.
>>2446158
even more interesting in person, massive in scale and there's a lot of texture, the subtleties of layers peeking through other layers, all very essential for fully appreciating the work.

Why? I just started lurking /ic/. Abstract art isn't very welcome here?
>>2446301
nope. this board has the narrow focus of an aspie. it must be representational, preferably realistic, generally digital concept art.
modern art, post-modern art, abstract art, conceptual art, etc. are beyond their understanding. it only leads to shitposting and /pol/-tier conspiracy theories.
there are a few here open enough to appreciate abstraction, but not enough to get a decent thread going.
>>2446301
If it doesn't contain (animu) girls, dragons or space marines, people here won't like it.
Except for a minority here who do love this shit.

If the art is talentless, it kind of loses it's worth. If it's abstract art and has a level of craftsmanship that is impressive, I'd still consider it to be good.
pic not related
Because that don't need actual skills, then that will not work in a place like this because there are no parameters that we can evaluate or criticize a concrete way.
That's why this place is more focused on the actual real or similar representations rather than other things. This makes it easy for us to tell someone what you're doing wrong, because we have concrete concepts and objectives as anatomy, gesture, values, color, light, prespective, etc. While an abstract work can have those things, it is not as relevant as it is the intension of it, you understand? it's like, what could we criticize an abstract painting? the intention? the staging? the composition? It lends itself to much speculation, while the other is simple, you do it wrong, we notice it, and it is obvious to everyone say what can be improved.
As you can see, the boards with more activity are the porn, the beginners, the alternative and drawing, all focused on the representation of the body basically. Abstract in the sense to appreciate a particular skill, you can speak, but otherwise basically is ignored

He's ass mad because his paintings don't look like animu girls.
>>2444958
>What does /ic/ thinks of Gerhard Richter's work?
It's shitty glitch art that is just based on gradients or blurry pictures.
>>2449941
Bullshit, abstract art is reliant on color theory and composition a lot. It doesn't need to rely on things specific to representational art, but the other things you still have to learn.

color theory and composition

>rule of thirds
Yup it has no composition whatsoever.
he's breddy gud and he's managed to establish a career out of just making whatever he wants. one of the few prominent contemporary fine artists worthy of respect i m o
he also filled a gallery with nothing but grey canvasses. top tier troll
