I've been learning how to join and construct round forms for almost a year, but seeing no progress. I feel like I'm overcomplicating every piece of advice I get on how to join shapes together.
Is there an easier way for me to understand how I can draw two simple forms together? Pic related, the roundness and volume of the character is what I'm trying to go for.

Can't really say what you're doing wrong without seeing your work.
post your work, also you may just need to draw more so that you're more comfortable and casual with what you put down on paper. if you think you're overcomplicating things then you may just need to become more familiar with it so it feels less complicated and more second nature.
wireframe every volume you do and then maybe you'll feel it eventually.
