How successful is this piece?
Do you feel it needs something or less somethings?

the only thing i don't like are those purple stars (don't really fit the motive) and the overall lack of background.
Your background is plain as fuck anon.

Im thinking of painting a daki design on a new board since my current board is on its last leg,
Personally would like to see more of the gold and the seashell blue worked in to make colors pop more
It was hand drawn and painted with acrylic. I'm going to add some goldstars. I post changes later.

Looks visually interesting from far away, but the closer you get, the less interesting it becomes.

you are right in stating that a background would make it cluttered, but plain black is never a good choice in background colour.
