Take off your fedora and read this. Basically study how lighting actually works on simple forms.
>>
>>2378880
thank you squire

and if i wanted to make a section of the pebbles sort of blue without looking out of place, would i need to use a transparency sort of thing, like on photoshop?

Or can I just do it another way on MS Paint?

I have one last question as well.

Does the pillow shading apply to the background as well as the guy thingy?
>>
>>2378906
dude, i can wholeheartedly recommend looking up paint.net.
basically paint with transparency, layers and brush patterns.

one way to colour the pebbles would be to dither them, but the yellow base might make it look a bit janky
>>
>>2378700
this isn't pixel art
>>
>>2378880
The pillow shaded scene looks better.

Yes it applies to anything. don't pillowshade anywhere.

Also, try to use as limited color for now and don't do jagged pixels like on your image.

Pixel art is all about precision so please make sure you get each pixels in its position so it doesn't look jaggy.

I attached a quick touched up version of your work using limited palletes to give you an idea of what I mean.

Hope this helps. :)

As a student who tried to learn through pixel art, it's not worth it. Git gud at traditional art first.

You gotta find the right balance and do both
>>
>>2379569
No, the pillow shading here is just a poor imitation of ambient lighting. The cast lighting in that pic with none so it looks weird but really only mongoloids would actually choose to pillow shade.

SHIT ON MY DICK I CAME

THANKS GUYS

No problem. hope that'll give you an idea on how to create a workflow.

Studying art foundation will help you immensely on making your pixel art pop out. so study dem forms and values, anon.

thanks

btw is MS paint ideal for pixel art?
>>
>>2380610
Also to add to the list, it's just my aesthetic in play there as I really don't know what matterial the subject you made is composed of.

I just added a highlight which is similar to the crystal.

>>2380619

I think any software might work, I used photoshop, mspaint and graphics gale for that matter.

I think the best software is graphics gale since it's made specifically for pixel art creation. photoshop is okay but really a necessity. Ms paint can be pretty cool if you wanna do it for fun and is just making sketches.
>>
>>2380624
alright fampie thanks for everything
>>
>>2380628
btw just got graphicsgale its fucking great
>>
>>2380632
No problem, anon. Have fun.
>>
>>2380635
hey bro last question

is there transparency on the free version? I see the option but its like locked or something
>>
>>2380638
If i'm not mistaken,I think there was but the only problem there is you can only save gif on the free version and lose all the layers you made until you buy the full.

If i'm mistaken I'm sorry I rarely do pixel art anymore and I use photoshop most of the time now.
>>
>>2380642
oh ok i dont use layers that much but ill see what i can do

i still cant find the color pick tool
>>
>>2380658
oh nevermind found it
>>

>MS Paint
do yourself a favor an at least download grafx2- it's free
>>
>>2380619
>btw is MS paint ideal for pixel art?
no. plenty of better programs out there, it's completely masochistic to use mspaint for pixel art.
>>2380624
I'd argue promotion is the best software
>>
>>2380682
>pro motion

First time I've heard of that, anon. Might look it up. thanks!
