Will practicing sculpting be any use to a painter/drawer? Aside from studying light. I know Loomis said the skills are somewhat interchangeable

Either way, what would be a good way to get started?

I was actually just about to make a thread on this. Hoping for some answers as I'm interested in getting into figure sculpting.

In my opinion, the understanding of a 3D field is an universal skill (when it comes to visual arts, that is)

OP here, from what I gathered Super sculpey is an ideal clay, and I that anatomy for sculptors book is SUGOI.

I was wondering the same, I made some test with sculptris ( the free part of zbrush) and it's surprisingly hard.

I really think it could be a very good training to internalise body and face proportion and to develop 3d visualisation.

Definitely. Helps you to think in 3d, learn form, etc. Working in clay definitely helped my painting.

Could anyone share some sculpting books?

I've learned more from my head drawing studies after doing a sculpture than before

Getting to know space and mass gives you a new depth, and what you're able to perceive is the limit to your skill

Also most master sculptors were fucking amazing drawers, like Michelangelo, Bernini, Rodin
