Depends, some people can be self taught. Other people learn better from an instructor.

Can you teach your self? Try it out if don't know, it only will cost some time. If you are getting nowhere try the other route before you commit to a full course. You can hire an instructor or attend a class or two to see if you like it and progress better.

depends on how motivated you are, considering you made this post, you probably aren't motivated enough. To get really good on your own you'd have to be someone who goes after it no matter what
