Favorite artist/artwork thread?
Doré is definitely up there, but I'd go with John Singer Sargent
>>2260401
dore is a god
Buonarroti
Pollice Verso, Kramskoi's Christ in the Desert or The Garden of Earthly Delights
>>2260403
wow that's fucking awesome
>>2260431
lol who calls him 'Buonarroti'?
>>2260403
Nice! I relly like this one. Got tumblr or something?
it changes a lot, but bumskee is the guy who made me want to paint in the first place
>>2260495
what happened to him?
>>2260569
head too small / 10
>>2260446
nope sorry
>>2260570
Pretty sure he moved back to Korea. He still posts on his blog sometimes: http://blog.naver.com/PostList.nhn?blogId=minskee&widgetTypeCall=true
But yeah as far as I know he doesn't take part in any online art communities or anything anymore.
Kim Bum,
his sketchy style is simple and nice to look at.
>>2260495
Definitely a good inspiration, too.
Zak Smith
>>2260598
poor bumskee, modo-bashers and porntreon-whores killed him
>>2261008
Not really. Bumskee is primarely an illustrator, not a concept artist, so modo-bashers have zero impact on his industry and I don't see how patreon whores have any negative influence on any professional artist's career whatsoever.

Just kidding..
I mean... who, in their right mind, would dive into this lol
p.s. goodbye bumskee

Fuark.
Where can I find high quality art images like you guys do?
>>2261125
Google Art Project has the highest res images available online. You can't download them directly from there though anymore, but there are workarounds to it. And actually wikipedia has all of the images rehosted there too, so you can find it on wikipedia then save them.
The other best place is to look through auction houses that frequently sell art. They often post hi-res images since some people will be spending 10's of thousands on paintings they may not be able to see in real life first.
Lastly, the laziest route is when doing a google image search for an artist you click Search Tools> Size>Large.
>>2261150
Can you link me to some of these auction houses you mention?
>>2260486
>>2260569

>>2261802
psssh... you should be telling him its too small, so that he makes them even bigger!
>>2260385
Sweet painting.
joel jurion
"A Little Night Music" by Dorothea Tanning.
Not my number one favourite, but certainly one of the best.
>>2260486
>too lazy to not paint symbols and learn something about light and form aswell as anatomy.
Goya was a hack
>>2267473
He had a freaking month to paint it. He's a genius.
>>2260583
All those textures hatched on meal plates. Fucking hell.
>>2269169
*metal
>>2260481
Andrew Wyeth is probably my favorite more traditional painter
/ic/ is a terrible place for an artist because there's only thee types of people here:
People whose only source of artistic inspiration is video game concept art.
People who want to draw like their animes.
People who are not aware of the two hundred years of artistic development that happened after renaissance.
>>2271314
and because no one mentioned francis bacon I had to
>>2271314
looks like a mud mixer to me
I won't be boring and post Sorolla/Sargent or Beskinski, I always see those.
Have some Carl Larsson
>>2271326
I like his grainy and thick textures a lot. The materials aren't hyper realistic but still feel like you could just touch them. There are more cleaner paintings by him but I really like the "muddy" ones.
Love the orange in this.
ruan jia da bes
>>2272054
this doesnt look nearly as good as some of his other stuff. ew.
>>2272065
its pretty old, from 2006 or so
>>2272045
My grandpa had an original Mead Schaeffer oil painting. It was pretty big. Can't remember it too well anymore, I just remember it had pirates. I was never able to find an image online that looked like it. I think it went to one of my uncles when my grandpa died. I should find out which one and bug them for a picture.
>>2261539
is that tom hardy at the front?
>>2260602
I really like Kim Bum, but finding his work is a pain. I have a Kim Bum folder with ~30 pictures, but that's all I have found of him.

Nice ironic meme by the way. I like how you replaced the word "kek" or "lel" with the traditional "lol". That was a good choice to really spice up the insult and make it seem like you we're hip with the kids while also maintaining a calmly ironic demeanor.
Great internet fight /B/ro!!!

Look at those greys, so wierd!
Whistler has some sick atosphere in his paintings.
You have to admire monet for his chatedral paitnings, it is said he evetnualy got nightmares from having to paint them so much.
Swedens best, arguably better than zorn?
>>2273652
Not swedish. Kroyer was born in Norway but lived and worked in Denmark. He was part of the Skagen painters (Skagen being an area in Denmark) that had some exchange with swedish painters since it is geographically close to the south of Sweden. But yeah, his work is damn good!
>>2273652
Kroyer is Danish-Norwegian, not Swedish.
she doesn't really influence my work much, but I love yayoi kusama
Ivan Aivazovsky
>>2273729
Who painted the girl on the throne? Ivan Aivazovsky was traditional marine painter, unless they got the same name

>>2273545
Reminds me of Interzone from the book Naked Lunch. Which is based off of Tangiers
>>2279423
>>2279424
>>2279431
I like the first one. There's a nice subtle and quiet treatment to it all. The flatness and simplicity reads well and enhances a decorative pattern to the canvas. Reminds me a lot of a Japanese aesthetic with their woodblock prints. Most of his work I don't like all that much, but some of it is nice. Perhaps you are being thrown off by set expectations on what a painting is supposed to look like and these don't meet that criteria--obviously he is chasing a different goal than Sargent or Repin or some of the others posted in this thread.
>>2279436
exactly, the first one is somewhat nice, because it doesent look like most of his stuff. but the other one has a handheld pylon, which is pretty dope if you ask me
>>2260385
What is this an illustration of?
>>2279449
The filename literally says it.
>>2260385
why boner.
all those perfect masculine bodies. i want to have orgy with all of them
>>2279423
what is the name of the artist?
>>2271320
4chan is a reaction to popular culture if you ask me, which is mainly caused by its anonymity.
The interest for classical art is like a reaction to today's hype on modern art.
People can express their true opinions rather than saying something to fit in. Ergo, no one goes here and says they like modernist art in order to fit in.
>>2279979
Repin, my friend

that is not gud
Enric Sant
>>2280217

Ivan Shishkin. I got to visit his house and see his pencil landscapes. The detail was incredible.

Come'on son.
This was the piece that made me want to start painting.
Pollock inspired me. I paint semi-abstract. At first I didn't understand why I would be attracted to his works, I was a child, in middle school my teacher enrolled me in an art show and from then I've been enveloped in painting like that. Most call it garbage, but its my solace. I feel good when I paint this way, I paint what I feel and what I see sometimes. Prefer to be left alone when I paint, and I didn't want world notoriety or anything like that I just wanted to paint.

Nicola Samouri is pretty neat. Another similar artist is Olivier de Sagazan; pretty weird dude but makes really eerie paintings, sculptures, and performance videos.
Zdzisław Beksiński, his style is so unworldly.
