They taught me to paint the colors as you go rather than render in layers. It was very helpful when trying to go for realism.

yeah in digital painting, its much easier to paint in layers. In oil painting youll just be fighting the colors the whole time until you have a shit glob of paint on the canvas

Depends what you mean by painting class.
A beginner's painting class should teach you basic color theory, values, how to blend paint, proper brush stroke technique, and maybe perspective/composition if its longer and slightly more advanced.

As I said, "my idea of fun" meaning its my opinion and applies to me and I'm simply stating an opinion.
I have fun comparing ideas to other people rather than all doing the same exact thing.
If it was simply

there's a lot you can do with that, different angles, different perspectives etc.. but this is all the same glass, same wine, same timeframe/action. its just boring.
